The word is sometimes used for anyone who falsely clames to be Pope, though there is a narrower, according to some more “correct” meaning which would be restricted to those men illegitimately elected by a group of actual Cardinals.
Generally it’s quite clear from history whether a person was lawfully elected by the College of Cardinals or not.

I actually follow his posts of Facebook. He’s a knowledgeable guy, just extremely misguided.
If you haven’t watched the documentary on him and his family, look it up. It’s enlightening.
