What's going on with the Jesuits?

From time to time the Jesuits have disgraced their Order by opposing traditional Catholic doctrine. Most recently, Cardinal O’Malley of boston expressed his intent to boycott the commencement at Boston College, which is run by Jesuits, because they are honoring an pro-abortion speaker/politician from Ireland.

Our new pope is a Jesuit. Will he remain silent about this?

What on earth is going on with the Jesuits?

Why do they betray the Church when they are supposed to be in the vanguard of advancing it?:eek:
 
Some of the Jesuits have been “lost” for a while now, but I think Pope Francis is working to turn the order around. He can hopefully provide good direction for them. The first Jesuit he appointed as Bishop (in my home diocese of Oakland) is very orthodox and strong on Church teaching.

Maybe they are honoring him for some other reasons?
You can’t expect a non-believer to be “kosher”.

Whatever the reason, it did not sit well with Cardinal O’Malley.

So why should it sit well with the Jesuits?

And why should it sit well with Pope Francis, who is a Jesuit?

Catholic colleges may honor a good person who is a non-believer in Catholicism. But someone who opposes human life is not a good person.
BC may be honoring him for reasons unrelated to abortion. So what? What if a university honored a White Supremacist? It would not matter if they claimed it wasn’t for his racial views, it still reflects on the university. Sadly, Catholic alumni keep pouring money into colleges that used to be Catholic. Many colleges refer to themselves repeatedly as “Jesuit” (or “Franciscan” or whatever). Alumni and parents think “Jesuit” automatically means “Catholic”, so alumni keep donating money, and faithful parents borrow extra money to pay for what they (wrongly) think is Catholic education. The term “Jesuit” is sometimes false advertising.
I also know Jesuits who are very good, serving faithfully into their 80s.
