What's going through your mind just before, during and after Communion?

Thank you very much 😃 I’m fine šŸ™‚ It’s still tough for me to receive Communion, but I’ve come to take things in a better spirit 😃 I will remember what your advice 😃

I would suggest that when you go up to Communion, you focus on saying, ā€œJesus, I love youā€ over and over again, and nothing else.

Are you totally focussed?
Not distracted by anything or anyone else?
Praying?
How would you advise a beginner to approach this part of the Mass?
It’s a mixed bag…sometimes I am hyper-focussed, other times it is as the Grateful Dead sang…

My mind was wandering like the wild geese in the West.

The big difference now from when I was younger and no where near as strong in my faith is that I recognize when I start to lose focus and ask ā€œwhy is Grateful Dead lyrics running through my head?ā€ and stop and bring it back into focus.

Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t…

The important thing (for me at least) is not to go off the deep end and over think it, allowing my self to start questioning my position within Christ.
Then to go back to mass next time and give it a go again…we are humans and that means incurring all the shortcomings being human involves.
God loves us, warts & wandering hearts, drifting minds and all.

Just my .02

Don’t trip. Don’t fall. Don’t drop the Host . . . and so it goes.

I’m focusing on the sacrifice of our Lord, but somewhat lose that focus getting back to the pew and trying to sing a song that I don’t really know. I’d rather kneel or sit and pray and glory in the moment of what has just taken place. But they want us to sing - I’d rather be praying and offering praise.
