The article is bunk … throw it away. The Catholic Church has long taught that this is grave sin that separates your soul from sanctifying grace. Do not take any consolation from surveys that promote “everyone does it” even though that may be the case. We have a fallen nature and we all sin - that does not validate our sins in any way.
Dobson falls into the Protestant trap of excusing any behavior not implicitly stated in the bible. As Catholics, we have the bible AND sacred apostolic tradition which predates the written bible by 400 years. What may have been handed down from the apostles and expounded on by doctors of the church is discarded by Protestants. The Church, through the Pontifical Keys, hold what is bound lawful on earth and what is not and She has spoken on this. Dobson and all other feel-goods, including some within the church, have no say in the matter.
SO do not be lulled into complacency by this sin via Dobson, Dr. Ruth, or anyone else. Follow the church’s teaching on grave sin and when you fall, seek absolution and pray for the grace and strength to resist this and ALL sin.
But you also have to do your part in avoiding the near occasion of sin by quitting internet porn, keeping the TV in the “off” position, and staying clear of soft porn in movies and in the media. Perhaps a tall order in todays age but if you don’t take steps to lower the impure tensions in your environment, you are not really committed to repentance.
Invoke the intercessions of the saints, especially St. Philomena. Get the Cord of St. Philomena and have a Traditional priest enroll you in it and then pray her devotion daily. DO the same with the Cord of St. Joseph. The church has an entire Communion of Saints and sacramentals at your disposal to help you navigate life with graces in an endless store in Her treasure from Christ’s redemption.
