Hello all, Pax Christi!

I pre-ordered the Baronius Press 1962 Tridentine Missal Summorum Pontificum edition. This is the one that has St. Joseph in the Canon of the Mass. (This is how you know you have a 1962 edition, from Fr. Z)

Baronius Press was to go to print as of 9/14/07 The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, when the motu proprio went into effect, of course.

I have emailed Baronius Press but they have not responded as to when they might start shipping the missal.

I have started to attend the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite at Assumption Grotto in Detroit and really want my missal. Has anyone heard of where they are at on this at Baronius Press?

Of course, when I do get it I will post a review here in this forum.

The Baronius website now says that it will be shipping the Missals on Octber 29th. So order away.

So that means 6 - 14 days after 10/29 I should be getting it. Thanks,

I’ve thought about doing that myself. Copyrights are only good for 50 years and the missals I have are way older than that.
In the US, the DMCA extended that considerably. I believe the “magic” year before which copyrights have all expired is currently 1929, with some limited instances of newer works, but the “50 year” rule isn’t a sure thing any more… Moral Theology should have some rather recent threads on the subject of copyrights with the particulars.

For the record, I use the Angelus Press Missal. I looked at it and the Baronius Press one. The main selling point for me was typesize. The print in the Angelus Press missal is easier to read.
Typesize is why I chose the Angelus Press Missal over the Baronius Press one, too.

I was able to compare them both side-by-side (interestingly enough, the bookstore at my FSSP parish sold both). They are both beautiful, with wonderful features and illustrations. The Baronius has a real leather cover, while the Angelus Press one is “leather like” but I probably wouldn’t have known that wasn’t real leather on my own. I do know that the cover on the Angelus Press missal is more flexible, which makes it a little easier to handle.

If you are nearing (or over) 40 however, or have difficulties with small print, then you would probably be happier with the Angelus Press missal.

I am 45 and wear progressive lenses. I can read anything so I should be happy with my new Summorum Pontificum edition of the Baronius Missal.

A review will be forthcoming.

An update, I got my shipping tracking number from Baronius just a few minutes ago, for an order placed a week or so ago. Now that does not always coincide with having been shipped out the door, but its a good sign they may even start shipping orders today.

Me, too. About 10 minutes ago. The USPS code says that there is not any information on the shipping item as of yet, so my guess is the mail truck is on its way to the American distributor’s facilities.

Yeah!!

Hello

Has anyone in the UK received the Baronius Press Missal yet? I ordered it about a month ago, got an email confirmation at the time (with an order number) but I haven’t been given any idea that my missal is now en route.

Any ideas? They are hard to get in touch with!!

I got my Angelus Missal today. I got a good deal on it from www.allcatholicbooks.com via amazon. I got the genuine leather version of the Angelus Missal (which I didn’t even know existed until I came across it on amazon), as the leatherette version just didn’t seem to excite me too much. I must say I am very impressed, and it has everything I hoped it would. I still haven’t looked through the Baronius Missal so I really can’t compare the two, but I do hope to get one too at some point and will immediately go into detail regarding the differences and similarities. I have been looking through it almost all day and can’t wait to use it at my first TLM this Saturday.

I just got mine a week ago. They might do things differently for you guys than they do here in the U.S. They should send you an email giving you a routing number, which you can use on ups.com to track your order. Haven’t seen my missal yet since I had it delivered at home and I am still at college. Hope this helps!

is that really the same as the Angelus missal?
Why is it half price? It makes me wonder whether it is truly the exact same or ?

Just wondering
I don’t own a missal yet and am wondering which to buy.
Yes, it is exactly the same.(I own an Angelus missal that I ordered from OLRL) This organization buys them in bulk and sells them for a low price so that people will be able to afford them.

I am interested in either the Angelus Press or Baronius Press Missal; what I have to ask, is do both have the reconcilliation Offertory Prayer used during the “Ordinary of the Season” The reason is that the missals at the churches seem to not have this Offertory. I have read most posts and it is about 50/50, but to have the “most complete” and all Cycles A-B_C would be the “one missal” May I have advice on this please?

I’ve put some money aside, and now I’d like to order a 1962 Missal for myself. I’ve done quite a bit of “window shopping” over the internet, and just can’t seem to figure out which is the best missal. I know that all published missals would have the Ordinary of the Mass in common and identical, but I’m into “special features,” and would like a Missal with morning and evening prayers, votive masses, Te Deums, etc., etc. I would like the opinions of others with more experience in the missal buying game, and what people generally use. I know the Angelus Press missal is quite popular, and one I’m leaning toward now.

Thanks in advance,

Mat.
From what I remember, The St. Joseph Missal was very good.

The Angelus Press and Bronius Press Missals are for the EF. What you seem to be talking about is only in the OF. In the EF it is always the same Offertory Prayers and there is only one Eucharistic Prayer (the Canon). The Offertory Verse and Secret (prayer over the gifts) will very depending on the day.
By Cycles A B C are you refering to the cycle of Scripture readings? In the EF there is only one cycle so the readings are the same every year.

I’ve got St. Joseph missals, St.Andrew missals, Marian missals, a JMJ missal and an Angelus Press missal. I also have a Baronius Press DR Bible. Of all of these I prefer the Angelus Press. It just appeals to me more than the others.

I was really disappointed in the quality of the Baronius Press Bible. The gold leaf is falling off and has been since the day I got it. Not much left on it now.

I hope I am making sense here; There are 4 Offertory prayers said by the priest during Mass; what I am referring to is the "Reconcilliation Offetory prayer used during perhaps Lent or at Advent; this depends on the weekly readings and whom the Mass is said for; The offetory prayer is not found in the missals at the church pews; it is found in the Lectory used at Mass used by the priest; my question is do both the Angelius and Bariious Press missals contain this offetory prayer? A priest would know; I am asking just in case someone knew
BTW; Interesting comparison on the Two missals; whichever they ae about 50/50;the Barious Press seems to have an endorsement by the Catholic Church in the form of an Imprimator; but either one would be fine!
Lastly Barious Press up to 2066; Angelius Press 2050
Thank you in advance!
Robert
