Priest said to me, “There is so much more to your life than this sin.”

about persuing a vocation
“Wait if you have a reason. But don’t wait just to wait.”

Josh

I often think of this advice given me by a spiritual director:

Instead of praying “Give me patience”, pray instead: “Jesus, BE my patience.”

Throughout the day, depending on the circumstances, one can pray “Jesus, be my wisdom”, Jesus, be my sense of humor", Jesus, be my compassion, etc."

That helped my perspective of where true virtue comes from.

“Invite Jesus along with you in your everyday life”

“Even when you feel nothing, pray…make that your prayer…say ‘here I am Lord, I don’t have much to say, but I’m here’…even the saints had dry spells”

“God loves you”

“You are precious in God’s eyes”

“Shy people are important too”

“Pray the Anima Christi”

“Go to the Way of the Cross”

“Spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament”

“Everything you do, invite our Lord into your life. Say a prayer before your classes, before your practices because our Lord is with you always, just recognize he is with you no matter what you do.”

From my spiritual director

Mine was Divorce your husband…I about fell out of my chair…I never thought to hear that…in all fairness, this advice came 2 weeks after he told me what to do to reconcile, it was when I told him that I did as he told and gave my ex’s reaction…see I listened to him

When one of the preists that used to be at the Church I was going to with my girlfriend (hm . . . I seem to sense her presense nearby, and she’s now my wife), before I was Catholic. He told me to just keep going to Mass and I would end up coming around. He also told me since I was Lutheran I was already most of the way there.

I knew I could trust him, since he was a Steelers fan. 👍

No dear husband…the best advice you have heard from a priest was when he told me to get a divorce…otherwise you would never have even dated me let alone marry me…you’re just doing the “guy” thing and celbrating Fr Mal being a Steelers fan cause they made it to the superbowl…I know you way too well!!!

I went to confession one time. He kept referring to the Blessed Mother as “Mom”. I never thought of her that way before. It makes me feel really close to her when I call her “Mom”.

Another priest was asked about how he avoids sexual thoughts and fantasies. He said to just throw it out of your mind immediately. If it is not there, then you will not do anything with it.
Or if it is gone, it does not lead to anything.

I went in to confess my bout with scrupulousity, and Fr. Tom told me this about salvation:

It’s not what you do, it’s who you love.

“Do not be looking for a spouse. The day you stop looking for her will be the day you meet the one you are to marry.”

This turned out to be completely true.

We need Jesus’s peace in our lives, and if we don’t have it, ask Him for it 🙂

1 – “Adhering to the 10 Commandments is just the minimum for Christians, go and love to serve” - homily on the day when the Gospel was the goat and the sheep “I was hungry and you fed me…”

2 – “Have you ever considered entering the Diaconate?”

“You’re confusing yourself. You’re not a perfect person who won’t be loved because you fall into sin, but a sinner who is loved.”

How I long to hear those words from one of my parish priests. Consider yourself very blessed!

Sigh. 😦

“Don’t beat up on yourself so much” and “try to take at least 5 minutes of prayer to God every day!” Good advice but sometimes I fail to do it!:(:crying:
