They had action groups which consisted of 4 or 5 people with someone helping them grow in the faith. It happened that the group Linda was in had four Catholic girls and the leader was a 22 year old Southern Baptist who was engaged to the campus director.

During a discussion one day the leader pause and said that she had been taught something as a kid that she was just starting to think may have been wrong. Then she asked, “Do Catholics really sacrifice babies during the Mass?” The four Catholic girls just looked at her dumb-founded. One of them was eventually able to pull it together enough to tell her that we didn’t do anything like that.

Upon reading this, I thought my eyeballs were going to pop out of my head and roll under the computer table! That one is a doozie and so are those horrid websites. It’s no wonder I get such odd looks at my crucifix around my neck, from some down here in the southern part of VA. They think I am evil, and that I go to the weekly baby sacrifice service!

When I was first converting to the Catholic Church a lot of my friends and co-workers were trying to talk me out of it. One day one of my co-workers, who is a Charismatic Protestant, told me that the Holy Spirit had been telling him on his car ride into work to warn me about the Catholic Church.

Thinking that I would hear one of the usual arguments, I asked him what his main concern was. He went on to tell me that;

"I could never become a Catholic or even enter the doors of a Catholic Church because the popes worship the Egyptian Sun god “Ra”.

I was blown away! I told him that was ridiculous and asked him where he had heard this information? He went on to explain that he had read it in a booklet that his brother had given him. He said this “booklet” proved that the popes really worshiped the Egyptian Sun god and not the God of the Bible because it showed a picture of the hat’s that were worn by “Ra’s” priest during their religious ceremonies and the Catholic popes wore this same hat.

I tried my best to convince him that the pope doesn’t worship the Egyptian Sun god, but everything I said fell on deaf ears. I’ve heard a lot of crazy stuff being taught against the Church, but this one is by far the strangest.

I would like to hear some of your stories, so think of the most bizarre charge you’ve ever heard made against the Church and share it with the rest of us. Books, conversations, Internet, radio, anything is fair game.

To be fair, there’s a lot of Sun God imagery in the Bible. Jesus calls himself the Light of the World and in Revelation his face is like the sun. I’m developing my own teaching on Jesus as light of the world. Light is closest to the divine. Although we don’t believe in Ra, Jesus is the real sun king.

Since Lucifer was cast to the earth and ruled the air of the earth we are told that Satan
is at work 24-7 all year long. Satan is angry with God and wants to influence us to follow
him and leave the family of God.

So maybe we can say that since the Catholic Church was instituted by Jesus Himself through Peter (Matt: 16; v 16 thru’ 20) it is the Catholic Church that poses the greatest danger to Satan on earth. That may explain why so many people and the media attack
Catholics & the Pope. Our battle is not against man but principalities of Satan.

It is interesting, with regard to the Campus Crusaders, that many of them have converted either to Catholicism or one of the Eastern Orthodox Churches! I personally know a Metropolitan in The Antiochian Archdiocese of North America who became Orthodox along with about thirty other Campus Crusaders–and almost all of them (who were men) were ordained to the Sacred order of Priests in The Church----and concomitantly, many of them became Catholics and many of those Priests as well. This is definitely a couple of great steps in the right direction. Many of them were “debunkers” of Catholicism–before the Holy Spirit took their scales away to really see Him whom they worshiped. Almost all of them testified that when they came to the ecclesial question of “what comes after conversion” they began studying history—and that study brought them to The Catholic Church and Her faithful Sister Churches of The East. As to charismatics…I know that God “speaks” to a lot of them…I know that God speaks to me----through His Vicar on Earth and the Gospels! Anything contrary to that is not God but a deception and divisive evil. Your charismatic friend may not know that The Catholic Church has more Charismatics than any other mainline church (other than the pentecostal sects which are mostly heretical), and Catholic charismatics are faithful to The Magesterium. Further…sacrificing babies??? I think that one might do well to look at the countless number of people claiming to be Christian (and even Catholic) that support abortion and the culture of death! Now THAT is sacrificing babies! Jesus promised that the gates of hell shall never be able to prevail against Holy Church. He also warns us that the world will give us tribulation. When people do and say these things against us, all we need do is look back to the Diocletian persecutions against us and onward. Calligula used our fathers and mothers for human torches in his garden! And as far as people pointing out to us things like the sexual abuse scandal—those abusers were acting out of extreme sickness and spiritual bondage and not acting as Catholics. Our household is both human and divine–like its master. Well, sorry to be preachy—it is my nature (ask my kids and grandkids.

But we don’t call it a “sacrifice”, we call it “baptism”

I’ll bet dollars to donuts that her notion of “sacrificing” babies was a corruption of “baptizing” babies, as the Baptists are against infant baptism.

Best one I heard from an evangelical co-worker: "I guess it is possible for a Catholic to be “saved”. Well duh…

I really don’t think you could find many people offering babies in the West (babies which have been born are legal persons and killing them is a crime). Satanists tend to be atheists with Satan being more or less a symbol of the Ubermann, theological Satanists are quite rare.
