Hi

I attended an Episcopal church some time ago, and the priest there identified himself as Anglican. Can someone please tell me the difference?

Thanks!

Episcopalians are American Anglicans who don’t pledge allegiance to the British Crown. Apart from that, it is the same religion.

Hi Kristie,

As a member of the Episcopal Church, I am also Anglican.😃

Here is a link that I think will be helpful in answering your question.

God Bless!
Thank you! Now, forgive my ignorance, but the article describes the Episcopal church as having it’s roots in the Anglican church. As far as heirarchy goes, then, would this make it more of a rite of Anglicanism, or a church in and of itself?

The Episcopal Church, like all the 38 member Churches of the official Anglican Communion (those Churches who are in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury), are Churches in and of themselves, as you say; self-governing and independent.

And then there are the Anglicans who are not in communion with Canterbury…

You need a scorecard.

LOL-- " You can’t tell the players without a program!"

I check my email 4 times a day to make sure that I am still Anglican…😉

I have to check my refrigerator 4 times a day to see if there is still beer in stock to make sure I am still Lutheran.

Come to her senses and become Lutheran?? 😃
Only if there is beer in the fridge and Diet Coke!👍
Wait a minute…You know us Episcopalian always have wonderful Wine and Cheese Socials. Will I have to do without them??😦

Not so sure about the wine…Wine is kind of, you know, uppity. We leave the wine to the ELCA Lutherans (it just goes with their personalities). Cheese on the other hand…mmmmm…ever tried Lutheran Wisconsin cheese?

Lutheran Wisconsin Cheese–Can I find it in the dairy section?

Now about this Lutheran Church-- Does my husband have to wear a suit and tie and are pearls required for me to wear with a dress and heels. This is important information since you know we live at the Redneck Riviera…lol

You know the ELCA might be more of my cup of tea…😉

Suit and a tie?? I have piercings, a tattoo, and usually wear khakis and a black dress shirt. Formality, blah! That’s an Anglo-Catholic thing…LOL

Hey they didn’t call us Whiskeypalians for nothin’! 😃

I thought when I swam the Tiber, I’d be in trouble, but as it turns out, Catholic monks practically invented modern brewing and still make some of the best beer on the planet. (not to mention cheese, wine, and lots of other tasty things!)

Makes me think of Friar Tuck from the Costner Robin Hood movie… 😉
