What’s the difference between mastubation and seed-spilling?

Are they the same in some way or are they two distinct sins? and what is seed-spilling? Is it onanism? and is a necessary condition for onanism having sex or is it also an auto-erotic act?

I’m not sure what the point is of the distinctions you are trying to make, but I’ll take a stab at it.

I would classify “seed-spilling” as an umbrella term that encompasses both masturbation and onanism.

I’m not sure what you mean by “auto-erotic act” (and I’m not sure I want to know ), so I can’t answer that part of the question.

I’d say distinct. There’s the sinful lust required in masturbation and the spilling of the seed somewhere other than in the Church’s teaching of the proper place – to the womb or cervix. Or one sin results in another. I think a priest would understand the distinction in that if one confessed, it would automatically be assumed that a bad means resulted in a bad end.

It is totally irrelevant.
Whether you are masturbating for your own pleasure or having sexual intercourse with your wife and using the withdrawal method to masturbate and climax outside her they are both sins of grave matter.

the main difference is that masturbation is possible, while seed spilling is not.

back when these taboos came about, people in ancient agrarian times (up to relatively recent eras) used to think the sperm was actually a complete seed aka embryo aka tiny person, and the woman was just the place for it to grow (like soil)…thus the extreme gravity in spilling semen.

I cna’t rmember the story exactly but I think Onans brother died, and he was required to provide his late brother with an heir. Onan had sexual intercourse with his sister in law, but he did not ejaculate inside of her.

He deprived his brother of his heir, and his SIL of a provider for her old age.

To me the worst sin here was selfishness on Onan’s part.

And I think masturbation is only tangentally involved.

I have to admit that is my thinking on the matter, and I have no official documents to back me up.

An you won’t find any credible ones either. The sin that resulted in his death was NOT depriving his brother an heir. That offense was punished in those days, but not by death. The fact that God killed him brings to light the fact that there was something more evil he did than simply refusing to procreate with this woman.

Like I said to me the worst sin on Onan’s part was selfishness.

To be blunt Onan had his fun at SIL’s expense.

I think it was the selfishness that God punished him for.
