God is the infinite goodness by which we measure all moral and ethic standards. Moral principles and ethics are essentially the same. Many times ethics are referred to a particular group. (i.e. medical ethics)

Morality is the understandng of good principles, taken in themselves.

Ethics is the application of moral principles in practice.

I agree. A basic problem is that many want ethical action but no religion. [A company I worked for stated this explicitly. They defined ethical behavior as following the company rules. ] They try to define ethics independent of morality and build their house on sand.

So is it possible for one to be ethical without believing in God, considering the consensus so far is that ethics and religion are intiminately tied?

Ethics is philosophy, morality is theology.

God may or may not be a part of the study of ethics, but it is a bit of an oxymoron to not consider God in the study of morality.
