What's the earliest a Christmas Eve Mass can be held?

I’d actually *love *to do midnight Mass again! My two-year-old…not so much.

We’ve taken our grandson to Midnight Mass since he was born because DD insisted that everyone go. This year will be his 4th one and his 7 month old brother’s 1st. Fingers crossed that the baby’s behavior will mirror his big brother’s.

It’s really a tad ridiculous to have Masses at 2pm, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, on the Eve/Midnight, and then only 2 on Christmas Day.

That’s the result of the desire of some to go on the Eve and not the Day…not any need to pack in a huge number of Masses. They could easily drop 2 of those Vigils and add 2 on the day.

A 2pm Vigil is a bit crazy from the liturgical point of view.

Even priests have families.
Musicians too. The days of walking to the local parish with all the kids in tow is long gone. We live 35 miles away from the parish, as do many others.
As long as the Church permits it, I don’t think it’s our call.
Pastors try to be “pastoral” and think of people who need to Worship first, and be with their families second. I think it’s wonderful that so many people want to come out fro Mass on Christmas. Maybe, God willing, one day…they’ll come back every Sunday! We can pray for THAT.
