What's the Format for the End of an EF Mass?

I always get lost after Communion and don’t know what’s going on. When is the Communion verse read? The post Communion? What is sung after the Last Gospel? My missal isn’t much help with this and I have no idea what I’m standing through.
 
After everyone has received holy communion, there is the ablutions and the priest recovers the chalice. The priest goes to the missal and reads the communion verse. He goes to the middle of the altar, and the following dialogue takes place:
P. Dóminus vobíscum. P. The Lord be with you.
S. Et cum spíritu tuo. S. And with thy spirit.
P. Orémus. P. Let us pray.
The priest returns to the missal and prays the postcommunion prayer. Afer returning to the middle of the altar, he kisses it, and the next dialogue takes place:
P. Dóminus vobíscum. P. The Lord be with you.
S. Et cum spíritu tuo. S. And with thy spirit.

P. Ite, Missa est. P. Go, the Mass is ended.
S. Deo grátias. S. Thanks be to God
Father then bows towards the altar while silently saying the following prayer in Latin: May the tribute of my homage be pleasing to Thee, O most holy Trinity. Grant that the Sacrifice which I, unworthy as I am, have offered in the presence of Thy Majesty, may be acceptable to Thee. Through Thy mercy may it bring forgiveness to me and to all for whom I have offered it. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
He then blesses the people and reads the Last Gospel. What is sung during the recessional can vary from parish to parish. Especially after a High Mass or Missa Cantata, the Marian antiphon for the season is sung. It is the same antiphon that is sung after Compline (part of the breviary) during the season. Or, it can be any other appropriate music.
 
Thanks TCC, I really appreciate it. So does only the priest say the Communion verse, or could the choir do it along with him? And I guess I’ll have to ask some of the people there what it is they sing after the Last Gospel, I’d love to follow along with them! 🙂
 
If it is a sung Mass, the choir will probably sing/chant the communion verse during the people’s communion. At least that is how it is done when we have a Missa Cantata at my location. By the time the altar boys receive, the choir is at the altar rail. Father gives them communion next. If I remember correctly, one of the first things they sing after their reception of communion is the communion verse.
And, oh, if that is how your choir does it, and your priest is like our chaplain, the communion verse is one of the things Father will say in a low voice, so, you may not hear it. We do hear him recite it at Low Mass.

I’ve wondered about that, actually. I’ve never seen the choir receive Communion. From what I remember, they sing throughout distribution of Communion. Is there another time that they could receive?

Maybe someone else can think of a possibility I haven’t thought of, but it seems to be that if they are nor receiving during the distribution of Communion, they either receive at another Masss, or have arrangements with Father to receive either before or after your Mass.

That is odd. I know our choir comes down after singing the Agnus Dei and are the first to receive. Then they go back up to the loft and sing the Communion hymns. But as tradcath says, if they’re not receiving during the normal Communion time, they are probably making other arrangements with the priest.
