If you are referring to Ave Maria Town, you need to look a lot closer at the “paradise” of Tom Monaghan. Even the local bishop has warned him to not call the university he is trying to complete a Catholic University, and the church he built is only a Quasi-Parish.

If this is the way some want Catholicism for everyone, they are in real danger.

While Monaghan continues to be sued, a careful reading of the site www.avewatch.com might be in order.

To the point - the Pope in Gallileo’s time taught that he was in error in his teaching of the theory of heliocentrism, and surely taught that all good Catholics should believe likewise. But was that because it was meant to be abominated for all time?

Or was he (as is much more likely) simply rebuking Galileo’s precipitous certitude that he was right on an issue which both the church and the scientific community were still in the process of debating, and which was only resolved in Gallileo’s favour later?

Not all condemnations of error are meant to be condemnations for all time. It’s not a case of trying to make 2+2 = 5, rather a case of determining whether Pius even meant the equation to be an addition of constant numbers in the first place, or an addition of variables that in his day added up to 4.

I belong to the Catholic Church to which the Pope is referring. Therefore, I hold the opinions condemned in Quanta Cura to be condemned, by authoritative command of the Magisterium.

i’m catholic and go to a byzantine church and novus ordo church.

i wouldn’t want to force american style catholicism on anyone. i would rather force sspx/fssp or eastern christianity on them. if american catholicism is so great, why is it that all of my catholics friends and much of my family don’t go to church on sunday? why is it that most catholic universities are apostate?

it’s hard for me as a man to sit through that feminized novus ordo american mass. i am embarassed of it at times.

What tradition of the Byzantine church do you attend? Also, there is no such thing as a “novus ordo church.” Is that a slur your are intentionally using to denigrate the Pauline Mass?

What’s “american style catholicism?” (sic) Another one of your personal creations? The FSSP is in America – do they count as well?

If you are indeed a Catholic, why would “force” the SSPX or “eastern christianity” on anyone? There you go again with the “feminized novus ordo american mass.” Who taught you that?

i’m not taking shots at the church, i’m only pointing out reality. why would i want to force a church on people who’s bishops protected and permitted homosexual priests to abuse children? it’s a disgrace and totally evil.

it was cardinal ratzinger who called the novus ordo a banal fabrication. he is very critical of the liturgical reforms of vatican ii. and he has brought back gregorian chant and kneeling during reception of commuion. but this is vatican catholicism, much superior to american catholicism.

EWTN and the traditional movements are the exception. but they are atypical of the whole american catholic church. in fact, the bishop of san fran, when he was bishop of salt lake city, was opposed to defining marriage as one man and one women because it would be “discriminatory” to homosexuals!!!

i grew up in south jersey. the diocese of camden would be an excellent example. they do have a flourishing traditional church called mater ecclesiae
