Is it possible to find online the monastic office?

I think the actual office can vary from monastery to monastery. Therefore, I’m not looking for the details such as which psalms, canticles, readings, etc. to say on such a such a day.

What I’m looking for in the ordinary of the office, i.e. the actual order such as versicle, response, now a hymn, now the psalmody, etc. But, I’d like it for all the offices.

I know the ‘ordinary form’ of the Roman Rite from the “Divine Office”.

TBC I’m talking about the monastic office since Vatican 2 and not what it was before then.

I know for example, there’s a difference between monastic and Roman in that monastic office has Vigils (aka Matins) which is quite different from the Office of Readings. Invitatory at Vigils has Pss 3 & 95 whereas as in Office of Readings there’s only Ps 95. Vigils has 2 nocturns each with 6 psalms. There aren’t that many in the Office of Readings.

You can probably find a scanned copy of Thesaurus Liturgiae Monasticae if you google. I have a scanned PDF and the actual book. The entire order for the 4 main Benedictine schémas is described, texts of versicles and collects, and antiphons. It also has several variations of the main schémas. It’s a bear to plow through on line as it’s scanned and thus not searchable, but I believe it has all you are looking for.

It was issued in 1977, so it is the post-Conciliar version. Pre-Council there were no variations, a monastic breviary would have all you need. Hard to find, I have a copy given to me by a monk, as they went to a post-Conciliar schéma in the ‘80s

Thank you for that info. If you have a scanned PDF, did you get that off line, and would you remember where? Is it possible to buy the actual book? I’ve put it in Amazon’s and AbeBooks’ search engines a few times, to no avail.

I don’t think the book was ever released to the general public. Mine is a copy from the abbey library and is sheets in a binder.

I forgot where I got the PDF; it’s been a few years, but it should be out there somewhere. If not PM me and I’ll see if I can send you a copy of mine.

Thank you very much for providing the link. I do appreciate it.

I saw the link because I had just signed in to ask you another question about the Thesaurus. Having downloaded the PDF from the provided link my question is answered. I was going to ask if the Thesaurus is in Latin, and it is. I have never learnt Latin so was not going to search for it if it was in Latin.

Now I have it I shall endeavour to read it. I can speak French and am in the early stages of learning Italian. I think those should help me to some extent in deciphering the Latin.

My pleasure! Yes it is in Latin; I’m fluent in French, in fact it is my mother tongue, so I can muddle though the Latin. When I get stuck…Google Translate is my friend!
