Follow their direction when you live in their home as a dependent. This means be obedient.

Treat them with dignity and respect after you move out on your own. Keep them included in your life. However, once you marry another, you leave your parents home and join your spouse. This means, it is your responsibility to keep the parents in check - just let them keep their dignity too. This may require some private conversations with the parents once you are married. When parents meddle in your marriage, you must have the guts to take a stand - standing with your spouse. It will go smoothly after an adjustment period. It takes time.

When your parents are getting older and need care, treat them with the most love and dignity you can offer. Let them live with you for as long as possible.

This is a good answer. Of course, parents who ask children to do things that are sinful, or who are abusive, give up their right to obedience. So children should not lie to cover up a parent’s illegal behavior, and can certainly flee an abusive/sinful situation without being considered disrespectful of their parents.

Are unreasonable commands from parents wrong because they are imprudent -I always get mixed messages on this.

Yes but NOT a “gay” person who adopts a child!!
Do they simply count as a “guardian” then? Or as “the man/woman who took care of the child his/her whole life and gave him/her food, shelter, and love” ?
What if the guardian is homosexual, but not in a relationship with someone of the same gender?
