What's the sin big enough for you to lose your children?

What’s the sin big enough for you to lose your children?

For instance, a king of israel had his children killed for committing a large sin. I suppose almost any mortal sin could be so punished though, because the punishment for mortal sins are your personal death, so much more appropriately could someone else’s death be a punishment for a sin too.
 
None needed. Losing your children can be a punitive and rehabilitating act, as it was with King David. It can also simply be a test or a challenge to overcome, as it was with Saint Monica (who lost her son Saint Augustine for over 20 years).

What it is not is pleasing to God - and certainly the death of a child does not please Him. This is what differentiated God from Molech; He desires not the sacrifice of babies to Him.
 
Just as Miracles are a rare sign, so is divine retribution coming to earth and smiting the wicked.

I would be wrong to say this can never happen, but it’s not how God normally chooses to reveal himself to us in the Post Resurrection world. It was necessary in times of the previous covenants as part of the pedagogical relationship He had with His People as they prepared for the Coming of His Son our Saviour.

However that does not mean that we live in an Eden. We dont. we live in a world where Bodily Death exists. There is a natural world where disability and death can come from:
Old Age.
Sickness
Accident
Murder

some of these are caused, (especially Murder and other results of violence and carelessness or negligence), due to the sins of we humans. Often the effects of that sin affect people other than the sinner.

But such effects of Sin are part of accepting that we have Free Will, that includes the freedom to act outside Gods Plan. It includes the freedom to sin even when that involves killing and maiming others.
That does not mean that the perpretrators will go unpunished. It does not mean our societies will go unpunished.

What Our Lord has told us at Lourdes, at Fatima and other apparitions, is that if we as a society can come together, Repent, Pray, Live the Gospel… we would be spared much of the horrendous wars that have been seen in the 20th and are coming in the 21st century.

Part of this is the subtle divine intervention of Our Lord nudging the mind and Hands of perpetrators away from their chosen course of action… within the bounds of their free will…
Part of it is the inevitable effect that a faithful people living properly according to Gods Plan, and not letting their Leaders run roughshod over the needs of other peoples in distant parts of the World.
A people who are seen to be a Godly People - will not draw the wrath of other nations in the way that the western world is currently drawing the Wrath of Islamic and Communist militants in our current world.

When the Islamic leaders call western Civilisation, and the USA “The Great Satan” it’s very easy to see what they mean.
Just because you and I try to live the Christian Life, our society claims to be Christian, but actively promotes a lifestyle which is inherently sinfull:
Look at the traditional list of “7 Deadly Sins”
is there any part of this list which our society does not espouse and revel in:
.1 Lust
.2 Gluttony
.3 Greed
.4 Sloth
.5 Wrath
.6 Envy
.7 Pride

How can those looking from afar, and trying as best they can to understand the Mind of God, without the Grace of Christ, not look at western society and see it as inherently evil?
 
There is no “big enough” sin. Sin is a personal disconnection from the being of God- and coping with the burden of losing children would probably detriment such a relationship even further.

And Jesus said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate? “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. “Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Thats for propaganda. Don’t think of them as “living by the book” because of the blablabla of couple of people. Historically, muslims coaped with homosexuality, leaders having palaces dedicated for abominations, and no one blew himself trying to destroy it. I knew one muslim who was working Friday only to 11 so he can go to the mosque, but you could’nt tell the difference. They are not afected by modernism as much as we were, thats all.

But wasn’t King David punished because of his affair with Bethsheba and for murdering someone, with the death of his son? Was that punishment inherently justifiable in itself, or was it simply a positive act of God which can only be justified by saying that God “made you, and he can unmake you”?

That’s my question.

What do you mean “justifiable in itself”?
When we say “pay for your sin”, it goes in as much as our limited existence can go; it creates suffering which in my opinion should teach us (all of us not only the ones who suffers) a lesson; and the purpose of this lesson is to safeguard us from the eternal punishment which is eternal separation from God. You can learn the easy way or the hard way.
Death of a child may look to much for an atheist, because all that he has is this life up to 120.
But we know that Goid loves us and the real value is the eternal life in his kingdom.
 
I was in the hospital on one ocasion and there was a kid who lost his legs; the kid brought flowers to his granny’s grave in the cemetery, and a big cross fall on him and broke his back.
His father was crying saying it was God punishment because of his adulterous life. Nobody told him something like this, but this is how he understod it, that his kid pays for him.
