What's the truth re: Vows of Silence / Fr. Marcial Maciel?

Hey all-

I recently started getting a daily prayer meditation from the Legionaires for Christ and it often has a comment from the founder, Fr. Marcial Maciel. A year or two back I read the book Vows of Silence which methodically built a strong case for him as a sexual deviant with plenty of material from people who had since left the order. It makes it difficult for me to embrace the meditations. Does anyone know the “other” side of the story?
