What's the Vatican's view on the movie "Angels and Demons?"

Hi, I was just wondering what the Vatican’s view is on the new movie “Angels and Demons.” It seems like an interesting movie, and I might want to go see it; however, if the Church is against this movie - like its more controversial predecessor - then I will refrain from seeing it. Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

It’s definitely not a recommended movie (I personally think it’s insulting to Catholics), but they aren’t saying much of anything so they don’t give any attention to the movie, like they did with DaVinci Code.

The USSCB labeled it “L – limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling.”, just one step down from “O – Morally Offensive”.

The April 2009 issue of “This Rock” magazine featured an article (by Carl E. Olson) on the subject of this (and past) Dan Brown novels, made into movies. The article goes over the myriad of mistakes, false statements and just plain lies… told in these novels/films… under the guise of entertainment. They are definitely, without a doubt… anti-Catholic. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see this movie for FREE. :nope:

I read the book a few years ago and I thought it was a great book and it wasn’t insulting to Catholics at all. As a matter of fact, I learned a lot about the Catholic religion. In the book, a Pope dies and a new one has to be choosen and it describes the entire process right down to the smoke. When the actual Pope died a few years ago, I wouldn’t have known what was going on to choose the new one had I not read that book.

I’m going to see it. I liked the book a lot, better than Da Vinci code. Quite a thriller

Mark Shea has written a book answering the untruths of Dan Brown’s book… I urge you to take a look. While there are some little things that are true, there are plenty of lies there.

I hope you don’t mind my quoting you, but this is the problem with this type of books. They are fiction, and will present things that are wrong, and when the author is questioned, he refutes using the excuse that it is fiction. Now, people reading it take it as historical fiction, or believe that all the details described are true, and “learn” all sorts of falsehoods about the Church etc. A lie surrounded by truth is harder to identify than a lie labeled as such. I remember talking with non-Catholics (and Catholics) post-DaVinci code and it was sad to hear all they had “learned” from his book.
