i’m only 14, but i can’t wait until becoming a preist. i know God has it planned for me(well, i’m 99.9% sure anyways). so when will i be able to join the seminary…18? i know it depends on the order too but i do not know which one God wants me to join yet. so will there be a chance i could be ordained in my mid to late 20’s?
Thanks

According to Canon 1031, the transitional diaconate may not be conferred until age 23, and presbyteral ordination may not be conferred until age 25. Most seminaries won’t accept men under 18, but with prayer and perseverence, the years will go quickly for you. May God bless you in your vocation, and may you be ordained a priest if He wills it.

I have a friend about the same age who’d be asking the same question! 😃

Just wanted to say God has a funny way with people… I was 99.9% sure I wanted to design video games and now I don’t think so… but your situation is different, because you’re being called to do something holy, so that might not change. Not that video games can’t be holy.

Oh, and…

All your base are belong to us.

Have you talked to your Parish Priest? I’m sure he’d love to hear such wonderful news!!

I’ll be praying for you!

Normally men are ordained in their mid to late twenties, that is if they enter college at 18 right out of High School.

That sounds about right. The reason is the seminaries want 4 years of undergraduate education and then full seminary for as long as it takes to get through, some orders want a Masters or even a PhD if you can get it, though that can happen after ordination.

The wait for the BA in Theology/Philosophy, etc… is so the seminarian can mature and know if that is truly the road he wants to follow and continue on.
