In my experience SBCs in the north tend to be more āprogessiveā and liberal, although the definitions of what constitutes liberal is debatable. CCM music and women deacons can be considered āliberalā in some churches.Thatās something Iāve wondered about.![]()

In the South SBCs tend to be more conservative, some in the camp of fundamentalist independent KJV-only types.
Well the SBC is big on local church autonomy. Technically, the SBC doesnāt have any way to enforce its beliefs on member churchesāshort of expelling them from the Convention. So it is possible that some SBC church does go against the SBCās stated belief. However, I doubt that on important matters that would happen.JustaServant,
Southern Baptists and the Southern Baptist Convention are one and the same. The beliefs of the SBC are clearly stated on the Southern Baptist Convention website. Link: sbc.net/aboutus/default.asp.
So, Southern Baptist beliefs should be the same. There are many other types of Baptists, outside the SBC, who hold different beliefs.
Many of the non-denominational churches hold many SBC beliefs, but differ to the point they are no longer SB. Thus, non-denominational.

And I agree with you. If a Baptist church is liberal then its not likely to be a SBC church anywhere. The Southern Baptists actually have had liberal churches leave. Google the SBC āConservative Resurgenceā or āFundamentalist Takeover.ā The SBC is clearly conservative on an ideological level today.
Seems to be happening in a lot of churches these days.I do have some Southern Baptist friends who believe differently, even from their pastor, but choose to stay in the SBC. Theyāre just careful with whom they discuss their disagreements.
