Religion should not have an exemption from challenge purely because a lot of people are religious. Nor should theists be any more exempt from insult than anybody else.

Does it follow, then, that atheists who challenge religion without any other purpose then to insult theists, should be exempt from any reasonable dialogue? Or would you easily dismiss this as a facile argument, as you have* every* defense that has been put forward? Somehow I find this* irrelevant* defense of yours, an insult. But I forgive you. And I challenge you to face the* relevant* demands on your intellect-atheist or not.
Come on, friend, step up to the plate,don’t let your fear and smugness get the better of you-just because Dawkins and a* few * others like you are atheists.

There is a huge difference between attacking ideas and attacking a group of people because of the color of their skin.

Atheistic attacks on the “ideas” about the **deepest held convictions of the human race ** shouldn’t be considered merely “skin deep”…is that really your best, my friend? And what you would call rational?

If he said things because of their colour or race, he would rightly be ostracised, and probably arrested. But, as you must be aware Ethnic grouping is NOT the same as religious beliefs. Your attempted analogy is irrelevant and facile.

It not an ‘attempted’ analogy. It is an analogy. It is both relevant and pertinent. As a matter of fact, many of us try not to deliberately insult other people at all. It is not necessary and drags discussion into the gutter.

Ethnicity and religion are often closely intertwined. Jews are a good example of this.

Challenge is not the same as insulting. Try to imagine how far intellectual endeavour would have progressed if insult was useful method of analysis and evaluation. It doesn’t go very far does it?
