What's Wrong with Joyce Meyer?

although i dont particularly care for her message. joyce meyers has done alot of very good work, in the prison system. bible studies etc. she at least puts her money where her mouth is, and works to make the world a better place. agree or disagree with her teachings, but you have to admit, she does a lot of good on the social level. peace

The prosperity gospel heresy infects all corners of Protestantism, even those that aren’t explicitly promoting it.

I have a terminal illness, and my dear Protestant friends keep assuring me that if I have enough faith God will heal me. Conversely a lack of faith hinders God’s healing. These comments remind me of Job’s friends. They are not helpful. How much faith is enough?

I am very sorry to hear about your illness. I do believe that the Lord can heal a person, if He so chooses.

But as you said some protestants say all you need is enough faith. That puts such guilt on those who believe this untruth.

My friend belongs to a church such as this. Her husband just passed away unexpectantly and she and her friends, including me prayed for his recovery. After he died, she told me that she felt it was because she didn’t have enough faith. What a burden for her to carry for the rest of her life. He did have a problem, but chose to not take the medications and that is probably the reason for his death. She also blames herself for not making him take the medications. People make their own choices and it is sad for me to see her blame herself for what happened.

I am against these types of beliefs and find that there are other teachings in her church that don’t seem very Christian. I told her it was not her fault, that the Lord has a plan for each of us and when He desires for us to come to Him, that is the moment that we die. One of the pastors in her church also told her that Satan took her husband. I can’t believe all the stuff she believes and is taught.

Sorry about your friends’ situation. I find that it is easy for us to talk about issues such as the prosperity gospel, but we tend to forget the ramifications that it has on real people with real souls.

Yes, Joyce Meyer contributes to charity. Great. So do Muslims, Buddhists, and atheists. However, when a false gospel is preached, it damages real people, regardless of what said organization does charity wise.
