Is there anything else in the catholic church that is inspired-inerrant?
For example are the teachings of the catholic church inspired-inerrant?
Yes, the Church is protected by the Holy Spirit when making decisions regarding faith and morals.

One example is the biblical Canon. I believe it because the Church has made an infallible decision about it. If it’s decision was not infallible the the Biblical Canon is simply a tradition of man and we have a big problem…

Are you saying that the teachings and traditions of the catholic church are inspired-inerrant?
There is one trinity which you might not be aware of. This is: Scripture-Tradition-Magisterium.

The word of God, as given to us by Jesus and the Apostles in infallible, perfect and much be accepted. Following Jesus is not only about believing that he exists but also accepting all of his commandments.

Now, the word of God was handed to us in three forms. Oral and written Tradition. One cannot go without each other and both of them were given to the Church and the she preserves it. However having these two is not sufficient because one must not only distinguish what is the Tradition in other words decide what is Scripture and what is Oral Tradition. At the same time it must be interpreted correctly because even an interpretation of the Scriptures can be in fact the word of Satan. This is the job of the Magisterium or rather the bishops in communion with the Seat of Peter.

And i’ve gotten dozens of different answers. 🤷
None of which you accept, because they are all too “Catholic”.
Just trying to understand what catholics believe and why…
No, justasking, your pattern proves this is not the case. In fact, your posts have demonstrated that you want to pursuade Catholics that what they believe is false, because you cannot find it in your bible. You have counseled Catholics to confront and expose the Teaching Authority appointed by Christ as “unbiblical”. You tell Catholics that they should worry about their faith in falsehoods, and express pity and relief that you are not Catholic so that you do not have to defend so many things that are “unscriptural”. So, it is clear that your monniker is disingenuous, you are not here to understand what Catholics believe, and why, but to dissuade Catholics from their beliefs.
I think even you are seeing that much of what you believe is based on specualtions.
No, indeed, JA4, nothing besides my interactions with you have honed my Catholicism more over the course of the last year.

How can dozens of different answers to one question be all correct? There can only be one right answer and i don’t remeber reading it.

i should have known better. You are to sharp and clever for me or anyone else to fool…👍 :bigyikes:

If you want to stay catholic stay away from the Scriptures. If you ever start to study them deeply you will find yourself in all kinds of conflicts with your church.

So, therefore, with the rejection of traditions, comes the current chaos of differing beliefs within the greater protestant community. A fair statement of the Catholic view?
If I’m reading what you said correctly, yes. I think that’s a pretty fair statement.

This is an example of that wooden mindedness I was telling you about. It is just not that simple, ja4, I am sorry to say. There is more than one right answer to a lot of things. There are more than dozens of different answers about Sacred Tradition, and all of them were right.

You will not be able to grasp this concept because it is intertwined with authority that you reject. In order to inherit and appreciate the mystery of Sacred Tradition, you must submit to the authority from whence it was produced. Since you are in rebellion against that authority, trying to get you “list” of sacred traditions will be like nailing jello to the wall.

I believe you don’t remember what you read, that is why I asked you to go read it again.

Oh, I was taken in all right, for many months! I believed your questions were sincere, and I worked for many hours to address them all. I did research, and wrote drafts, etc, etc. I was totallly hoodwinked, though. I was not nearly clever enough. However, when I look back over the pattern in your posts, I have become wiser, so I have no regrets.

This is a slanderous accusation that is designed to malign Catholics themselves and the Church. It is malicious. you have been trying for the better part of the year to pursuade Catholics here to study the scriptures. Now you openly admit that it is your belief that doing this will pull Catholics away from the church by creating conflict. Your plan and your motives have been made clear.

I posted 21 reasons why Sola Scriptura is a false teaching.

You’ve turned that around to attack Catholicism. I wouldn’t call that a very good response to the challenge.

Sola Scripture is wrong on many counts.

Your questions are loaded and not sincere requests to learn the truth about the situation. It’s an attempt to trap people and then claim a victory somehow.

But you’re missing the real substance of the criticism against Sola Scriptura.

yes, i gave you the three Scripture , teachings, and tradition
**I do practice sola scriptura **and the oral tradition you talk about is what was given and confirmed by the scripture. It was not tradition that is made up every few years by the roman catholic church until it has become the most confusing religion in the world. My catholic friends are confused by all the stuff.

They shouldn’t be confused. It’s stated quite clearly what our beliefs are in our catechism. They could go to any priest and ask any question they like and get amazing answers. If they’re confused, it’s probably for lack of searching hard enough. Though since I don’t know them, I can’t say for sure… but that’s my initial answer there.

I have not attacked catholicism but i’m trying to look for comparisons to the Scriptures that we both know are inspired-inerrant. Correct.

Secondly i need to understand what your defintion is of sola scriptura is. There are many out there and i want to deal with the one you are using.
What is your defintion of sola scriptura?

I don’t even care any more. You know what Protestants, you win. Even though all of the doctrine that you don’t believe in is taught in the Bible and by the early Church Fathers. I’m sure Martin Luther knew better even though he lived what 1500 years later. Wait I think Luther was at least intelligent. I meant Ulrich Zwingli.

No holden, Protestants will never win…😉

Thank You. I love when they say something isn’t in the Scripture and then you show them where it is and they just change the subject.
Honestly, it is a fact that they cannot answer a lot of questions…you’d think they’d get a clue…or they change things around, or they call you names…

Just trying to understand what catholics believe and why…
It’s pretty clear that you’re posing an insincere question. So what you’re **not **trying to do is understand. What you are trying to do is create some kind of rhetorical game in order to avoid the overwhelming proof against Sola Scriptura.

That is sad and a very shallow way to approach your religious belief, in my opinion.

Ok. You to have the ability to read my mind over the internet. 👍

Now can you please answer my question so i can be sure what you mean by Sola Scriptura? i don’t want to missunderstand you.

Why don’t you tell me how much you know already and then I’ll tell you if that’s right or wrong.

That’s the way someone who wants to learn and understand will approach the discussion.

If you say you know nothing, then I’ll know you’re either lying or not interested enough to learn anything.

I’m not reading your mind but just observing your attitude. It’s very easy to see, given the tone of your remarks and your unwillingness to add any further details to your “question”.

Huh??? If i’m going to discuss sola scriptura with someone i need to know what they mean by it. I need to know your definition of it so we are on the same playing field. Without it i may responding to a straw man and not the real thing.
So again, can you give me your definition in a sentence or 3?
Thanks

Sola scriptura (Latin ablative, “by scripture alone”) is the assertion that the Bible as God’s written word is self-authenticating, clear (perspicuous) to the rational reader, its own interpreter (“Scripture interprets Scripture”), and sufficient of itself to be the only source of Christian …

Sola scriptura was a foundational doctrinal principle of the Protestant Reformation held by the reformer Martin Luther and is a definitive principle of Protestants today (see Five solas)

Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian.

Is a Latin phrase that means Scripture alone. Martin Luther and other reformers taught that Scripture, and only Scripture, was the final authority …

Latin for “Scripture alone”. Fundamental tenant of the Reformation teaching that the whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for God’s glory, man’s salvation, faith and life is set down in Scripture (see 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Hebrews 1-6).
