I’ve had a goal to read the Bible cover to cover for years! It’s often a New Year’s Resolution but I’ve never finished. I’ve decided to finally achieve this goal. I need a reading plan. I’ve tried one year plans before but I want a system that allows me to read more. I want a method that I can continually use; in other words, a system that I can continue with for the rest of my life.

Sounds manageable. Do you have a system you use to work through the different books? I tend to focus on the Gospels and neglect the OT.

don’t neglect OT its essential the whole NT is fulfilling OT…after OT then read NT…each time you read pray to Holy Spirit for understanding and if doubt comes see in church’s teaching…

On my Facebook page, I have a “Bible in a Year” reading plan. Every day we post a selection of readings from both testaments. Approximately 20 minutes of reading per day and you will have read the through the entire Bible in a year. We begin the plan on Jan 1st every year but you can join in anytime. I also keep a note file on the page with a list of all the daily readings for the entire year.

Also, I just came across this today. The Augustine Institute is publishing a new Bible in a year devotional with daily reflections on the Scripture readings for each day. It hasn’t been released yet but it’s available for pre-order.

Thanks Luke. I’ve tried one year reading plans before but I always give up. I might purchase that devotional and get started. I’ve got to cross this goal off my bucket list and soon!

I started reading the Bible in December of 2015, and I finished it on April 3rd of this year, I believe. It helped that I signed up for a Bible course in college last Fall because I knew there would be consequences for not doing my reading. I often read an entire book in a day during this time. In the last months, though, I think I was reading five chapters a day- less if the book I was reading was shorter than that. That made it a lot more manageable for me, and that’s what I recommend.

I am reading the Bible all the way through for the second time, I’m currently in the Gospel of Luke. I think what I’m going to start doing after I do it this time though, is to concentrate on the New Testament although I like the Old Testament, I don’t think I know nearly enough about the New Testament. Just because you’ve read it two or three times, doesn’t mean everything sticks.
