What's Your Church/Place of Worship Like?

Hey, I thought this would be fun, and give us all alittle rest from the doctrinal debates, but:

What is your church/meetinghouse/synogogue/place of worship like?

If you look at the different churches/places of worship, you begin to see that the way they are set up reflects their theology somewhat.

Does your place of worship have an altar at center, or pulpit, or both?

Does your place of worship have any religious imagery at all, or is it plain?

Cross, crucifix, resifix, or other image of Christ?

Baptismal font, baptismal pool, or baptistry?

Does it have liturgy to a certain extent?

What do you enjoy most about your place of worship?

How often do you have communion/Eucharist?

What does your church look like?

There is no alter or pulpit. There is the “facing bench” and the Clerk’s Table. The Metting House is arranged like a “U”, with the Friends given the “care of the Meeting” sitting in the “horizontal” bench. The rest of the Meeting sits facing each other on either side of the Meeting Room on the “vertical” of the “U”.

Does your place of worship have any religious imagery at all, or is it plain?

Very plain, no religious images at all.

Cross, crucifix, resifix, or other image of Christ?

None.

Baptismal font, baptismal pool, or baptistry?

None

Does it have liturgy to a certain extent?

Only the “liturgy of silence”. When a Friend is moved by the Spirit to bring verbal ministry, they stand and give their message and sit back down.

What do you enjoy most about your place of worship?

The simplicity and the deep calm and peace as we sit in the Presence and Listen to His Voice.

How often do you have communion/Eucharist?

We do not celebrate the Eucharist with outward signs and symbols, we commune with God at each meeting…He is truly present among us…Doyle Penrose painted a Friend’s Meeting called “Presence in the Midst”…it is a representation of what we believe occurs during Meeting.

What does your church look like?

A plain square building that looks like a large colonial house…no steeples, bells or adornment.

Very nice. Neo-Gothic (constructed in the 1890’s, and spared most of the liturgical desecra…I’m sorry, reform of Vatican II). It was completely restored during 2004-5.

Well, it’s a Catholic church that looks like a Catholic church; the people are very, very nice; I love our new priest; and it has a very good religious ed program.

We worship in a 100 year old building. Additions since then have included a chapel and Christian education facilities.

We have a pulpit on the right (looking forward and a lectern on the left. In the center in in front of the organ console is the communion table.

Yes we do have religious imagery. We have many beautiful stained glass windows. As well as murals painted on the hallway walls in the Sunday School area.

There is a cross on the communion table.

We have a baptismal font.

Does it have liturgy to a certain extent?

Yes we follow a rather traditionmal reformed liturgy.

What do you enjoy most about your place of worship?

I love the music. We have a fantastic pipe organ and a large chior as well as a bell choir.

How often do you have communion/Eucharist?

The church as a whole receives communion 4 times a year. It is available after any morning service in the chapel.

my parish is alive and filled with the Holy Spirit as are my priests, one of which just was made a monsignor. They are joyful and full of the Holy Spirit. We worship God in Spirit and in Truth and receive Him Body Blood Soul and Divinity each day of the week!

Hi

I am an Ahmadi a peaceful Muslim. Like all other Muslims my place of worship has nothing as described by you above. We pray there to One and Only One God, the words are the same as do any Sunni Muslim have for Salat. Our Kalima or slogan “There are no gods/godheads except the One Allah and Muhammad is neither a god nor we worship him, he is a ProphetMessenger of OneGod” in Arabic the words of Kalima are “la elaha ellullaho muhammad ur rasulullahe” I have given its meaning.

Our places of worship are simple, need no ornamental things.

We will soon have a new Chapel on campus. I am very excited for it, it will be called the Chapel of St. Michael the ArchAngel.
