I selected other.

It’s always hard to select one over another becasue they all have merit and are worthwhile. So instead of selecting one of the choices given, so I will say the one I actually watch more often and was unlisted.

Jesus Christ Superstar is my favorite.

I watch it a few times a year. I like the music & dance. I think the Judas character is outstanding, but most of all I like how the play weaves the biblical story throughout it. It is thought provoking.

I selected The Passion. When I first saw it in the theater, I pulled out my rosary and started praying. No other film has effected me that emotionally.

I also like to watch Prince of Egypt with my kids. 👍

What’s your favorite Biblical/Spiritual movie? Forgive the limited possibilities of the poll (it is Easter, so these were on my mind). If you choose “other” please tell me the title.
My favorites are The Passion of The Christ
The Ten Commandments
I watch these every year during Holy Week.

I voted for The Passion of the Christ, and the Greatest Story Ever Told.

I voted for all of them!

Where is Bells of St. Marys? Going My Way? Song of Bernadette? Joan of Arc (the one with Ingrid Bergman)? Oh yes, and Therese, the one that just came out about St. Therese the Little Flower

And Lilies of the Field :yup:

Yes, I know. And someone else asked how I could leave Ben Hur off the list. I did it quickly – obviously too quickly. Sorry!

Anyway, I’m glad to see all the responses, and I’m seeing some movie titles I hadn’t heard of before. Unfortunately, Blockbuster doesn’t offer some of the older ones, but maybe I can find them somewhere.

My wife and I saw “Bernadette” on EWTN not too long ago, and it was fantastic. We also enjoyed the miniseries, “Teresa de Jesus.”

We’ve recently signed up with Netflix, and on the recommendation of Steven Greydanus of decentfilms.com, we rented “The Miracle Maker,” which is a stop-motion animation feature on the story of Jesus, up to the crucifixion. We watched it on Good Friday, and it was so good that we’ve decided to make a family tradition of watching it every year.

I also like that movie. It may have flaws, but then again, no Jesus film is perfect (After all, there is this disclaimer, if you will at the start of the film with the actors riding a bus to their destination [The Ruins of Avdat in the Negev] and dressing up on their costumes, so it like sends the message that this is just an interpretation, and not an actual reconstruction of the Gospels)

One of the wittiest lines in the film, I think is the lyrics from Simon Zealotes:
Christ you know I love you
Did you see I waved?
I believe in you and God
So tell me that I’m saved
Kinda like some jab at ‘Sola Fide’ for me.

I rather like the Apostles at the Last Supper - ‘then when we retire, we can write the Gospels, so they’ll still talk about us when we die’ … a gentle poke at them for arguing about who among them was the greatest 😉

Therese of the Andes-EWTN shows it every summer around her feast day. I watched it last summer and it was the beginning of me realizing she was to be my patron saint.

Never saw Passion of the Christ, never want too. Everyone I know of who saw it says they wish they hadn’t.

  1. Why? The violence?
  2. Everyone you know who saw it? Is that a really small list, because it is pretty popular? 😉

I think it might be the violence, yes. And yes a small number, 6 or 7 people.🙂

I might sit down and watch it someday, just not sure yet.

It is difficult to endure, but I think that’s the point. Christ endured great pain and death for our salvation. I do wish the lighter (still violent, but a little less gore) version that came out the next year was available on dvd.

God bless,

Robert

I just saw “Therese”, the film that came out a few years back about the Little Flower. It was very good! A little on the Hallmark-movie side, but enjoyable none the less.

If I had to pick a particular lyric from it mine would be:
What then to do about Jesus of Nazareth?
Miracle wonderman, hero of fools.
PRIEST THREE
No riots, no army, no fighting, no slogans.
One thing I’ll say for him – Jesus is cool.

The Passion of the Christ, of course! I saw it last Good Friday. One of the greatest movies ever! And I’m also a big fan of the great classic Ben-Hur (the 1959 version, logically).

Has anyone seen the movie St. Peter?

We saw it last week and really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me was the way the Last Supper was portrayed. It looked like they used the Leonardo da Vinci painting.

How about the Man for all Seasons. I liked that movie when I saw it.
