I was going to mention Our Lady of Siluva, too, but Yallguys beat me to it, and did a great job telling the story. It’s on account of this apparition that Lithuania is Catholic, and why I am Catholic, too, because my mother’s parents came from Lithuania.

I voted Fatima, because it was there that Our Lady performed the greatest miracle of our time and it was witnessed by thousands, many were healed and many skeptics and atheists were converted because of the miracle of the Sun at Fatima.

Lourdes was the first Marian apparition I have ever heard about, my grandma kept a plaque (it was actually a drink tray souveneir!! oh, the tacky things they came up with back then . . . ) of the Lourdes shrine hanging on the wall in her house, she took my dad and uncle there when my granddad was stationed in France in the 50s. Later I was at a friend’s house and his mom played a video about our lady of Lourdes (an anime cartoon) for us and I recognized it as the same place my grandma told me about and had hanging on her wall. I always thought Lourdes was the name of the girl, I didn’t realize till much later that Lourdes was just the town and her name was St. Bernadette. So for that reason Lourdes is really special to me.
I wear a Miraculous Medal (Our Lady of the MM) and a Brown Scapular (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) and have received many graces from both, such as less temptation to sin, and I think the Guadalupe story is most fascinating. All of the approved apparitions are special to me, but I just had to vote Fatima as the #1.
BTW, aren’t “Our Lady of the Rosary” and “Our Lady of Fatima” the same apparition??
And though I do love using the Pieta prayer book, I think Medjugorie is a big hoax!! Thank you for only putting approved apparitions in your poll, Joel! 👍 :clapping:

Has anyone heard of Our Lady of Zeitoun? This is another one of my favorite Marian apparitions, where our Lady hovered over a Coptic Church in Egypt for extended periods of time and was witnessed by Catholics, Protestants, Coptics, Orthodox, Muslims, etc. and was venerated by all of them. There are photos and video footage of it too. Like the Knock apparition, she just appeared and didn’t say anything.
It’s an approved apparition.

  5. Monthly confession"
Mine too!

What about Our Lady of Montserat? Does anyone know anything about it?

I’m sorry I can’t mention the name of it. Since it is “unapproved,” it will be wiped off this forum faster than a speeding bullet. I have also read “The Miracle Detective” by Randall Sullivan. What an awesome book!
Agree 100%! Medj has changed so many people’s lives for the better that if it is from Satan he has made a big mistake!

i was so torn in voting. i pray a cenacle to our lady of fatima on fridays. but our lady of medjugorje brought me to the love of our lady, but wasn’t listed so that one didn’t matter. so i chose our lady of mt. carmel b/c i LOVE carmelite spirituality. i have also a special love for the scapular she gave us. although, our lady of fatima also talked about the scapular…hmm…i still say our lady of mt. carmel. special place in my heart!
heck, i like them all!!! it’s Mary!!

I love all of her visits… to pick one over the others is really tough.

The story of Guadalupe is really special, but so is just about every story. The cloak of Juan Diego goes down as my favorite miracle. The image is just stunningly beautiful, of all her robes, it is by far the brightest and most colorful and almost gaudy by comparison.

BUT it is so spectaular that I think it must be one of her favorites also. When ever anyone mentions Mary, my mental image of her is in white with a blue sash, that’s more like her description from Lourdes.

For someone who uses fashion styles from 2000 year ago, she still has great taste. Of course I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that she is the most beautiful woman ever.

The appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe directly resulted in the conversion of hundreds of thousands of people over the subsequent two decades, and even more over the past 473 years.

It’s the only Marian appearance that left a physical sign; to this day science still can’t explain the image on the tilma.

yallguys:
I don’t know if it is my favourite, but I thought I would mention Our Lady of Siluva because it is little known thanks to Russia, but I like the story very much. Actually this was the first widely known apparition of Mary in Europe, and the only to a non-Catholic as I understand. Siluva is in Lithuania.

In the middle of the 1400’s a painting of the Blessed Mother with child was brought from Italy and put in a Church at Siluva where it remained for some decades. Then of course came the protestant reformation and the local government became Calvinist, taking most of the Church’s property. The priest of the church anticipating what would happen built an iron clad box and burried the painting in the ground near a big rock. 80 years passed and the Catholic community in Siluva mostly died out, only a few of the oldest people remembered anything about a Catholic church being there.

One day some children playing near the rock heard some loud crying. They went to investigate and saw a beautiful young lady with a baby in her arms weeping bitterly, tears splashing on the rock. She was dressed in strange blue and white robes such as the children had never seen, and a strange light surrounded her. Then the lady disapeared. One boy ran to tell the Calvinist Pastor, who did not believe him. The boys told their parents however and before long the entire village was gathered around the rock. The pastor upset that his flock would take interest in such a Roman superstision came to tell them to go away.

Then the lady appeared again, the whole crowd standing in amazement that it was just as the children described, including the pastor. Finally the pastor asked the lady why she was crying, and she said “There was a time when my beloved Son was worshipped by my people on this very spot. But now they have given this sacred soil over to the plowman and the tiller and to the animals for grazing.” Without another word, she vanished.

Many were convinced that this was Mary and many began to return to the Catholic Church. An old blind man in a nearby village recalled having once helped a priest bury a box near that rock 80 years ago, and so the people of the village led him there wondering if he could help them locate it. When he reached the site his sight recovered and he immidately was able to help locate the box. Inside the box was the painting and the preist had also happened to bury a deed from the King of old who had given this land to the Catholic Church. With the deed they were able to get the land back in court and there have been more miracles involved with this miraculous image throughout the ages. I have never been because as I understand it’s a bit difficult to find if you don’t speak Lithuanian and half the Lithuanians I know don’t even know about it, the other half being too lazy 😉 but as I understand they have a shrine there now. You can find out the rest if you want! You can also see the image on a website like ourladyofsiluva.com or type it in google and see what else you can find.
Is this one approved by the Church? I’ve never heard of it, what a beautiful story!

My favourite is a local apparition (I’m from Malta) at a place called Girgenti. The bishop has not done anything about it, but many religious and lay people believe it to be authentic. Here’s a site about it: ourladyofconsecration.org/index.html The section on the passion is very thought-provoking indeed (helpful for meditation on the sorrowful mysteries)

i answered Our Lady of Fatima. but Our Lady also appeared at Fatima as Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, so it’s all good. 🙂

I wouldn’t be so emphatic, but I have my doubts too. Somewhere I read about one of the “seers”, while in a speaking tour in the US, in a parish and in he interrupted his talk to kneel before the altar, mouth to the “air” as talking to someone floating and then he repeated a supposedly message by Our Lady.

I don’t know, I’m a sucker for Marian apparitions, but this one seemed almost on demand… God forgive me if in my pride I’m being slanderous by relying on hearsay.

:blessyou:

I think that’s Ivan. He splits his time 50/50 between the US and Medjugorje (he’s married to an American). The apparitions are regular and so he has had apparitions in the US.

The best way to go with Medjugorje is to ask around and see what JPII and BXI think about it. You’ll find that both of them would follow Medjugorje closely. The then cardinal Ratzinger once told a reporter to leave Medjugorje to the Vatican, when asked about the Bishop’s stance against the apparitions.

i voted of our lady of fatima i love ur lady of fatima with all my heart its a story that means so much to me and made me come back to the faith i love it and in the words of our lady of fatima in the end my immaculate heart will triumph jay 2

I chose Our Lady of Lourdes, because I know so much
about Bernadette, and the visions in their entirety 🙂
