Green privet hedges were the norm for gardens in these parts .

But an odd garden here and there had a golden private hedge , and as a kid they caught my eye , and still do . They are beautiful .

I’m not sure kind of tree this is, but it was covered with white fuzzy flowers last month. It reminded me of the bottlebrush trees from Australia, maybe related 🤔.

An angel, legend has it, took pity on a little shepherd girl who had nothing to give to the Infant Jesus in his manger. The angel handed her a weed, but first transformed it into this beautiful flower of winter… the Christmas rose, Helleborus niger.

I have a couple of hellebores flowering now 😊 Along with woodbine ,jonquil and japonica .So nice to have some colour in the garden .
