We have one that smells similar to fejoa fruit 🙃
 
I never knew tortoises had such particular tastes !😄

Reminds me of Caramel pie!!! … such yummy memories 😃🥧

I used to bring a pot of water to the boil, drop in the can of condensed milk, and let it gently boil - oh, I forget for how long - then remove from stove, let cool before opening and voila! It was now caramel!! Then this was used to fill a pie shell. Once, I forgot to wait … punctured the lid with the can opener and caramel shot out and up in a stream!!! Funny now 😁

Which reminds me of another tin rattling in a pan of boiling water .

The dreaded Kaolin Poultice .

My childhood doctor seemed to me to think that a kaolin poultice was a universal remedy .

When I had mumps she prescribed it .

Other times she prescribed it .

I remember saying to my mum as she took me to the doctor’s : " She won’t tell you to put a poultice on it will she ?"

👍👍👍 - the best part once finished getting as much out of the can as possible into the pie shell, was wiping out the remainder with a finger and eating it like that! No wonder I have a sweet tooth!!

It’s true! I think maybe the color red reminds them of the prickly pear cactus fruit they normally eat in the desert. They pretty much ignore any other color hibiscus I offer them, be it pink, yellow, or white, like the one below.

That brings back memories.

My mother would use this exact brand of evaporated milk to make a flan 🍮.
 
You can make ice cream with it too! No churning or ice cream machine necessary.

Just three ingredients. Whipped cream, vanilla and condensed milk.

There are a few methods, but basically whip the cream and add the condensed milk. Freeze in a metal pan.
 
I guess this must be the Philadelphia style ice cream which does not have a custard base.
 
Put it in your ice cream instead of condensed milk.

Dulce de leche ice cream.

You might want to check a Latin market for it.

I don’t know. I tried it recently. It tasted very good almost like Haagen Daaz , and the texture was very creamy, no ice crystals.
