The OP said he’s curious about the stats on CAF. We’ve had people do all kinds of stats and surveys which, to me, are a lot more personal.

Most of on here are anonymous, anyway. If we find it too private, we are not obligated to respond. I’d also be curious to know, myself.

Oh, and I’m female.

Does anyone know how to change this into a survey? That’d be interesting.

I don’t see the problem with this question, I don’t think it’s to personal.

There are only two answers to the question, I wouldn’t look to far into the question…

As someone who has watched his best friend struggle with his gender identity and sexual expression, before finally accepting that he is transgendered, I cannot tell you how wrong you are.

I watched him for 15 years grow from a teenager to manhood and suffer at the hands of society and his family until he could come out first as homosexual, continued to suffer, before beginning his transition. He has finally come into himself and he is happy now.

Your theology doesn’t match reality.

I’m a cisgendered male, btw.

Lol, this is kind of petty IMHO. So if you’re filling out a questionnaire or survey and it asks you your “gender” do you write out this whole paragraph right on the page or something?
 
Female.

It’s a fair question. I find it interesting because most of the time one can discern the sex of the user by their responses. Though not always. 🙂

It’s why we’re beautifully different, yet wonderfully equal.

Your friend clearly has a great problem, and “transgender” medical treatment may help him. The point is just made that sex is biological and can’t be changed, though the body’s features can. Having said that, it is also clear that sex does not fully define the person. Theology and your observations are not in conflict.

Many people say “gender” unaware of the word’s proper application, rather than seeking to make the point you suggest. Blame it on a lack of education in the area of languages.

Ones sex as defined by biology can’t be changed. But plainly, some individuals do suffer serious internal conflict whereby they experience their sex as in some sense “wrong”. Medical treatments aim to ease the distress.

There are a great many threads here at CAF which ask us about our personal life. We are free to respond, or to ignore those threads. Or I can preserve my privacy by not answering the question, as I choose to do now. :o

A friend of mine just went on a rant about that in the middle of a conversation the other day. I just nodded and waited for her to finish. She said almost verbatim what you have posted here.

While it has not been a common usage the word gender in English has been used to refer to masculinity/maleness and femininity/femaleness in people as early as the 16th century.

Here’s the issue, the body and the brain get masculinized at different times, it is possible due to the womb environment for the brain to be insufficiently masculinized thus leaving the brain close to a female brain than a male brain, likewise it is possible for the brain to be excessively masculinized leaving it close to a male brain. Psychological gender isn’t a choice, see David Reimer
