We have an orthodox and properly done Mass. I think most of the parishoners are pleased. I know our priest puts a big emphasis on obeying all instructions in the GIRM.
Amen!

I attend a traditional parish, with FSSP priests. We have all of the sacraments in the traditional rite. We used to live 45 minutes away, then moved, and now drive 2 hours each way on Sunday. It is worth it.

Personally, I don’t get all the fuss over the “EWTN-style holy masses”. I’ve been to several good and very orthodox NO masses, and to me they are very protestant. I’m a former Methodist, and the similarities in the services would astound you. Of course, having been to many* truly* *atrocious *masses, I can understand someone’s excitement at having a mass that at least follows the rubrics.

A Liturgy that is orthodox and follows the directions of the GIRM given from Rome. Thanks and God Bless.

Hey,
Out of curiosity, could you point out some similarities??? I am not saying there aren’t, but I have attended numerous Methodist services around the country when I was younger with my grandparents (3/4 of my background is Protestant: Methodist and Baptist). I have been to NO, TLM and Eastern Rite Masses and none of them looked like the Protestant services I attended. Thanks and God Bless.

I know exactly what you mean. I was a Methodist pastor for 27 years. Talk about disappointment as I attended some RC masses in our area! Except for the implied claim that the Eucharist was the real deal there was virtually no difference between the NO and the services I’d conducted for years as a United Methodist. There were some notable exceptions but sadly so much of the patrimony of the Catholic Church has been discarded by so many RC parishes. It’s really sad. The exceptions are wonderful. There are yet many solid RC parishes but one must look for them.

However, in the search for a home we went to heaven on earth the Byzantine Catholic Church where the patrimony is honored not discarded. Ocassionally we visit St. John Cantius in Chicago where the NO and the TLM are celebrated with great dignity.

I pray for the day when every RC Church begins to reclaim what it toss away and again become the Church it was meant to be.

Put the tabernacle on the altar. Put the crucifix in a prominent place. Use incense all the time. Dispense when “extraordinary ministers” except when the situation is actually “extraordinary”. Reclaim the Gregorian Chant. Bring back the iconography. Have the priest become a shepherd again as he faces east instead of a lecturer, etc.

OH Dan!
You are so right!
I was faultering when I first moved to the state I am in now. I left a parish back home that had the Patrimony of the Catholic Church at one Holy Mass and the youth mass later on Sunday. I was used to the Patrimony.
I moved here and it was a vast wasteland. I almost left the church.
God Bless you for finding what was right for you! I pray everyone who wants it can find it!

(I almost moved to a Chaldean parish. I felt holy there)

So what do you do? It is like that where I Iive. Did I tell you about the muffin Masses? Yeah, raisin muffins! Bottom line, Russia was not consecrated to the Immaculate Heart and we are paying for it dearly.
Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for us!!!
It is funny how Protestant converts are all becoming Traditionalists. I know so many of them!

Usque.

oops, strike ‘all’ and insert ‘many’ before the word ‘Protestant’.
sorry, bad generalization.

Protestant convert here. I am a major fan of the current order of Mass. However, many of the things that abused about it I find totally distasteful. I like the huge wall crucifixes. I want to see the centrality of the tabernacle and the proper respect given to the body of Christ. I want the focus of the liturgy of the eucharist centered totally on Christ and not us.

On the other hand, I have a couple of things I do prefer about it as opposed to the Tridentine Mass. First, I find it much easier to pray with my mind and soul in English. Second, I receive communion in my hand because I can keep my head bowed and continue meditation during the most important part of the Mass. I am good friends with my priest, yet during this one time I do not even make eye contact. I realize this is specific to me and would never generalize this to anyone else.

My parish has a variety of masses, but most of them are of the Kumbaya side of things, to a varying degree.

Nothing heretical or overtly abusive liturgically, though. In fact, the mass I attend, the 11:45 mass, is quite good! The choir is quite, shall I say, “Anglican” in their approach to church music! I like it. The other masses are of the guitar-strumming variety.

But I will say that the priests (the two Fr. Mikes) are great men and preach very well. And when our bishop decides to show up on occasion, he gives a great homily, too.

Net…

Most of them are. Some are a bit less so. We have our problems but there is always a sense of the holy. One of the things I appreciate the most is that the priest faces the same way we do when we worship. It suggests two things: 1. He’s worshipping as well. 2. He’s is acting as a shepherd. He’s leading us and not just talking to us.

Dan, you’re right!
I should have said, all of the Eastern Rite Holy Masses I have seen.
But as was stated on another thread, with the Latin Rite being hijacked by Modernism in many places, your worse may well look wonderful to us.
:blessyou:

Being obedient to the Magisterium I accept the New Mass, although I think Papa Benedict XVI will change a few details (more latin etc)
Our Masses in our Chapel are the new Mass sung in latin except for the readings, prayers of the faithful in english. Our Chaplain faces east, not the people and it is truly beautiful, a real sense of mystery. We always receive in both species, kneeling, except some stand for the blood, just neccesary to prevent spillage
Bring Back Latin!!!

That’s excellent - I live just outside Washington, DC and I’ve been lucky to find a small parish in Great Falls, Virginia (about 20 mins. outside the city) where the liturgy is celebrated wonderfully - the pastor also faces east and the there is a weekly solemn Mass in Latin.

It is amazing to see the effects that the Sacred Liturgy has upon communities where it is celebrated devoutly and reverently and faithful to the rubrics. Sunday was Corpus Christi here - and I can’t describe the beauty of the Mystery that was celebrated. A children’s choir alternated soprano parts of a polyphonic setting of the Mass in Latin with the adult choir - how beautiful! Who says the young don’t appreciate Latin?? The parish was full of other young people - children, teens, young adults and young married couples. Glory to God!

I really pray that our new Holy Father, Pope Benedict, will have the courage and the wisdom to guide the faithful of the Church in a renewed understanding of the Sacred Liturgy - and launch a more effective effort to end liturgical abuses and endless experimentation.

We’re praying for you and with you Holy Father!

Yes, thank you - I have the book and I think it’s wonderful! Now let’s pray that what he did in support of the Sacred Liturgy as cardinal - he will continue to do also as Pope.
