Who are the least of Jesus’ brothers?

Are they (we) the worst of Christians? The poorest of any race or religion?

Are we called to do more for the “least” than for the rest?

I see it as those who are “least” in the eyes of society. The poor, the disabled, the outcasts.

We are called to help and speak out for those who are unable to do so for themselves, for whatever reason.

I’m thinking the “least of My brothers” varies for each individual. It’s whoever each individual tends to look down on - or find fault with in some way. For example; a person who is materially poor, may look down on the wealthy; always finding fault with them. For that “poor” person, the *least of My brothers *would be the wealthy.

We are called to help those in need whenever possible, not try to determine who is the most needy. The most difficult thing I faced, being a selfish sort of person, was being able to recognize need. I started with the little things, like carrying a small can of gas in the back of my pickup. I don’t know how many times I gave that to people who had run out. In this situation, the guy in a Cadillac is just as needy as the poor person driving a 15 year old clunker. I constantly had to fight off excuses not to stop for either - rich so and so, let him call for help; they look like trouble, I’d better not stop. I finally got in the habit of just stopping, regardless of what they looked like, and leaving my safety in God’s hands. I’m still here, by the way. After that, it started getting easier, both recognizing the need and recognizing what, if anything, I was able to do about it. My advice would be to pray, then start small. Little by little, your eyes will be opened any you will be blessed beyond belief.

Thanks folks,

I have lately started giving money to people who ask for it, even though I sometimes presume it will be spent on drugs or whatever. Or sometimes to people who are at the off ramp holding a “will work for food” sign.

I’ve heard so many people say that these types are fakes or addicts, but who knows? I figure if I give in good faith, maybe they’ll use it in good faith.

Is it good to give to these, or am I making their condition worse?

Mark,

One definite possibility is that “the least of these” includes the unborn. They are definitely the poorest and least able to help themselves.
