Whay don't Catholics spread the Gospel more readily and enthusiastically?

I am a Catholic who is searching for a masters program in evangelization. This program would teach methods of evangelization using modern techniques and have multiple avenues in doing so. Random evangelization and techniques in Catholic witness would be practiced etc… We need a program like this as well as the heady theological training. A place where practice and education would meet. Does this exist in the Church at all. I have NET (National Evangelization Teams) in my background as well as a BA in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Is there anything like this out there?

Sacred Heart in Detroit recently started up a program in the field of the New Evangelization:

They have Ralph Martin. 🙂

That’s the only degree program that springs to my mind immediately. There may be others.

I think the OP is looking for a Master’s level program that focuses specifically on evangelization and would offer the student a good blend of the scholarly/academic theological formation and practical guidance in effective techniques of evangelization.

The OP served as a volunteer with NET ministries (where young adults volunteer a year or two of service to travel around the country offering retreats for youth) and has already earned a Bacehelor’s degree in Theology from Franciscan University. I assume the OP was sharing some background so that we would have some idea of where he/she was coming from in terms of education and experience.

Does that make more sense? :o

Well, Sacred Heart has a Masters in Theology with a concentration in the New Evangelization. I don’t know that there is currently such a thing as “Masters in Evangelization” (though that would be something cool to put on a résumé – “I am a Master Evangelist and I have the paper to prove it!” :p).
 
I would say listen to Catholic Answers a lot :), Seriously, read or refer to the Catechism and read the bible daily. Then trust in the holy Spirit. We are called to profess the faith but we are not all the same level, it depends what other responsbilites you have such as family, job, etc. I would go with St. Francis supposely said, preach without words. Live your faith.

The real proof would be the number of converts you could boast, would it not?
 
Good heavens - how many university degrees did Our Lord have? St Peter? St Monica? Mother Teresa? Yet all were successful evangelists.

Evangelization doesn’t happen because of ‘techniques’ that can be studied and replicated ad infinitum. And I’m deeply suspicious of anyone who tells me that it does.

It happens because the Holy Spirit works on both the one trying to spread the gospel and the one listening to it. And the HS can work through even the most hesitant tongue and the most hardened heart.
 
You don’t need a degree to evangelize. You just need to be excited and passionate about your faith and have the desire to share the reasons for your passion with others.

It doesn’t matter what degree He had, all that matters is that we know is that He would have went to UNH, the greatest college in the world! Go Wildcats! 😃

Certainly, you are correct. But I think there can be value in studying what works and what doesn’t work. The great saints seem to know these things intuitively, but the rest of us can often benefit from a little guidance.

Not that there is some magical formula that results in a 100% conversion rate. Would that there were! (although that would sort of undercut free will :o).

The OP is probably more-or-less looking for the practical application of theology.
 
I guess that I’m just really frustrated that Catholics don’t have or do more in the area of evangelization. We have the Eucharist! Come on people. I do need to pray more, no doubt, who doesn’t but really. Can’t we get together as Catholics and maybe a few protestants and get something going. Maybe I shouldn’t try to re-invent the wheel and do a protestant evangelization masters. …maybe as an undercover Catholic? Anyways thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut folks. You know that next year’s Synod of Bishops is on the New Evangelization, right? 🙂

Are you familiar with CatholicsComeHome.org? They’re making great headway in evangelization efforts.

Catholics are doing things in the field of evangelization. We invented it, after all. 😛

Evangelization isn’t always a matter of taking off all of our various hats and saying, “Okay, now I am going to focus on evangelization.” Everything the Church does is part of Her evangelizing mission. Catechesis is a moment of evangelization. Reaching out to the poor is evangelization. It’s not just a matter of going door-to-door and doing things like that.

But, yes, there’s always room for improvement. 👍
