The Mass is prayer, and therefore, everything of the Mass is meant to be a prayer - including the music. Whether or not the music is in accordance with Church teaching is irrelevent to whether or not the music is appropriate for Mass; i.e., are we lifting our hearts and mind to God or are we thinking as human beings do? I believe the song is inappropriate, because it is about the birth of a child, not about Jesus. However you twist the lyrics and their meaning, it is inappropriate for the Mass.

The words are trying sooo hard to be poetic, and it just doesn’t do it for me.
And just think of a congregation singing lines like “You start to feel you’re on solid ground.”

I’ll have to check the lyrics myself in just a moment, but think of it this way: there may be many people who ARE still waiting and DON’T know Who this Child is. Perhaps a song like this would encourage them to look–and encourage us to pray for them.

No, it is not appropriate for Mass. It clearly says that the child has not been born yet. It doesn’t even sound like a Christmas carol to me!

Vague lyrics that mean very little - except that what we’re waiting for is a child to be born.

You probably have, it’s very popular at this time of year – just not in church. Unfortunately it seems our choir has decided to do this one at Midnight Mass, complete with the spoken part. Gag me!

I am positive I haven’t heard it. I go to 7:30 Mass to avoid music.
On Christmas Eve, there will be traditional carols and “What Child Is This/ A Child Of The Poor” and that’s about it.

Just like to share that my group will be singing all traditional carols and Christmas hymns on Christmas Day.
The Psalm will be chanted from the Chabanel Project.
The only questionable thing will the the Agnus Dei from the Mass of Creation. Lose one, Win many.

Ahhh, I listen to satellite radio, so, if it is not on EWTN or The Catholic Channel or maybe 90’s alternative rock or Symphony, I miss it.

I, too, listen to Sirius, as well, and I haven’t heart it. I listen to 80s and First Wave. I also listen to Vatican Radio online and that song certainly hasn’t made it there.
