Is is just me or is there something just not right about this song that makes it totally inappropriate for Mass?
Its just you. There is nothing in the lyrics contrary to Church teaching. Is is just me or is there something just not right about this song that makes it totally inappropriate for Mass?
Don’t the lyrics imply that we are still waiting and don’t know who this child is?Its just you. There is nothing in the lyrics contrary to Church teaching.
The Mass is prayer, and therefore, everything of the Mass is meant to be a prayer - including the music. Whether or not the music is in accordance with Church teaching is irrelevent to whether or not the music is appropriate for Mass; i.e., are we lifting our hearts and mind to God or are we thinking as human beings do? I believe the song is inappropriate, because it is about the birth of a child, not about Jesus. However you twist the lyrics and their meaning, it is inappropriate for the Mass.
I’ll have to check the lyrics myself in just a moment, but think of it this way: there may be many people who ARE still waiting and DON’T know Who this Child is. Perhaps a song like this would encourage them to look–and encourage us to pray for them.Don’t the lyrics imply that we are still waiting and don’t know who this child is?
Makes perfect sense. Music that is appropriate for Mass must, by definition, be in accordance with Church teaching.Quote:

You probably have, it’s very popular at this time of year – just not in church. Unfortunately it seems our choir has decided to do this one at Midnight Mass, complete with the spoken part. Gag me!Thank God, I have never heard this song - and never want to.
You’re not alone. I haven’t heard it either. It must be on our bishop’s “we don’t sing that” list.Thank God, I have never heard this song - and never want to.

I am positive I haven’t heard it. I go to 7:30 Mass to avoid music. On Christmas Eve, there will be traditional carols and “What Child Is This/ A Child Of The Poor” and that’s about it.
Ahhh, I listen to satellite radio, so, if it is not on EWTN or The Catholic Channel or maybe 90’s alternative rock or Symphony, I miss it.I’ve never heard it in church – until now – but it’s a popular radio tune at this time of year.
I, too, listen to Sirius, as well, and I haven’t heart it. I listen to 80s and First Wave. I also listen to Vatican Radio online and that song certainly hasn’t made it there.Ahhh, I listen to satellite radio, so, if it is not on EWTN or The Catholic Channel or maybe 90’s alternative rock or Symphony, I miss it.
