It’s amazing, but not surprising, how many people it draws in too. 3 of the 4 largest Christian congregations in the US preach prosperity theology including Joel Osteen’s. And his ministry is responsible for spreading the idea to more people arguably than any other single source now that he’s become a “darling” of the more mainstream with his books, TV program, world tours, etc…

I think Time did a poll that pegged it at 17% of Christians that are members of one prosperity ministry or another.
Teaching that living a christian life will lead to prosperity is just basic Karma,
nothing magical about it.

It depends what you mean by prosperity. I know plenty of people living a fully Christian life that are anything but prosperous.

The prosperity gospel is about material gain as a reward for being a pious christian. Being pious ofcourse includes sending large amounts of money to the preacher so he could sustain his ministry. A lot of preachers have become filthy rich because of that.

Needless to say, the prosperity gospel only works for the preacher.
