When a saint says Hello

Awhile back we had a thread (now locked) where some people posted their experiences with St. Therese of Lisieux sending them roses. I had my own little experience with her a few weeks ago, but today I had a really interesting encounter with a different saint that made me go “whoa”.

Yesterday, since it was a holiday weekend and the feast of Christ the King was happening today, I was on Youtube watching a handful of English-language documentaries about the Cristero War. (Sadly, my Spanish is not good enough to watch several more that were in Spanish without subtitles.) I was vaguely aware for some months that there were some very young martyrs from that war and that at least one of them had been beatified, but was hazy on the details. One of the documentaries mentioned this 14-year-old Cristero who was tortured and killed because he wouldn’t renounce his faith, Jose Sanchez del Rio, and I Googled and read a couple articles on him and further found out he was not just beatified, but had been canonized by Pope Francis last year. I was completely unaware of this because last year I was not really paying much attention to anything other than the Holy Year of Mercy. This was the first time I had actually read up on this Saint beyond maybe a 2 line mention in some Google book that I was searching for something else. I thought he was very brave for being so young, so I added him to my personal list of saints I like or want to find out more about that I keep in my phone memos.

This morning I went to a shrine that is a couple hours drive away, for a Mass and breakfast event that other than falling on the feast of Christ the King, had nothing particularly to do with Christ the King or the Cristeros or Mexican/ Hispanic saints, culture, etc., was hosted by a European order (not associated with Spain), and was in a state that is about as far away from Mexico as you can get without leaving the USA, and not in a particularly Latino neighborhood. After the Mass, there was coffee and donuts in a break room so I went and had some and talked with people I met there, then when leaving I went to throw out my plate and passed this podium that was sitting in the room for events where someone might speak to those gathered at tables, but it was not in use that day. I noticed this thing on the unused podium that looked like a business card. It didn’t look like a holy card because it was business card sized and had a nondescript picture of a chalice on it . Out of curiosity and figuring it probably had something to do with the order hosting the event, I picked it up and was completely flabbergasted to find it was actually a holy card of none other than Saint Jose Sanchez del Rio with a prayer on the back. It was just the one card. I have honestly never seen a holy card of this Saint in my life and here’s one just out of the blue the day after I read about him. I felt like he was saying “Hello.”

Anybody else had a Saint say “hello”?

There is no doubt he was letting you know he was there and you now have a new friend in Heaven. With God’s blessing he was able to connect with you and now you have introduced him to us .God Bless::🦋🦋.

Back in 2011 I attended Sunday Mass as usual. Our Parish Priest was away, leading a pilgrimage to the hly places of Poland. I was a bit envious and sad that I couldn’t have gone also. I had been in an unhappy marriage for many years with zero communication.
During Consecration, I was adoring with my head bowed. The Sanctuary arches met in a curve ,high above te altar. As I looked up , quite high above and (from my perspective ) to the right of the altar was a very clear and large living image of Pope John Paul 2 looking down upon the congregation , totally resplendent in beautiful vestments !.
I wondered why I had been permitted to see him . I’m almost sure that it was on the day of his beatification. Then I realised that was May 1st , which also happened to be my birthday !

Yes saints sometimes do this as a way to communicate with us. I definitely think Saint Jose was acknowledging your interest in him and was communicating with you. I think you should pray to him always asking him to intercede for you in life. What a great blessing. You have a very great friend in heaven.

God is everywhere and right in front of our face. Saints are present at Mass. It doesn’t surprise me at all whether in your phone or not. It was on your heart I imagine.

People who are deceased sometimes send a little message back to their loved ones that way, letting them know that they are okay (“saved”, basically). Your aunt might still be in need of prayers if she has some Purgatory to go through, so you should pray for her.

When my mother died, I prayed that I might see a Monarch butterfly to know she was all right. The Monarch migration was happening through our area at the time so there were a few around, and she and I used to hunt and catch butterflies together when I was little - we didn’t kill them, we would just keep them for a day in a jar with holes, so I could watch them up close, and then let them go again the next day. So butterflies were special to us. I actually got up the morning of her funeral and went to the city park at dawn to try to see a Monarch because that is when they could usually be seen as they hang in the trees. I searched all over the park trees for 2 hours and did not see a single Monarch or butterfly of any kind so I figured I was asking too much. But then when we were sitting in the car to go to the cemetery, I saw a Monarch hovering around the hearse that had my mom’s casket in it, so I figured that was it and I had seen one.

However, when me and all my relatives were gathered around the gravesite a little while later, and the priest was saying the prayer for the dead, this giant Monarch came zooming in and it flew down low and zoomed directly over my head, about a foot over my head, in the middle of the prayer. Everybody there just gasped out loud because it was very dramatic and on cue with the priest’s prayer . I had not even told any of them that I had prayed to see a Monarch butterfly and when I told them they gasped even more. My cousin who was there told me a similar experience her sister had at their own father’s funeral with a dove. We have had other stuff like that happen in the family with others who have died, so this is just a couple of the experiences.

One evening, I thought a lot about the intercession of the saints, about which Saint I should pray with.
I was seeking some help with fighting sins, temptations, and also seeking the usual protection for my family and I. The same night, I had one of the most “realistic” dream ever:

I was standing in a Church, with some people near the entrance.
This Church had countless saints statues all over the place, and near me, one of Archangel Michael.
Suddenly, I felt a stressful, evil presence: at the centre of the alley, was a statue of Satan (or at least it looked like it).

Almost immediately, every saints statues became sorta “alive”, floating in the air, in front of their stone stands.
Saint-Michael looked straight at me, and I could feel an incredible force surrounding him. He and every other saints aggressively stormed Satan’s statue, and it disappeared. (the stressful feeling left as well)

Then, every Saints went back on their stands, and became statues again.
Although, one came to me before leaving. He hold me in his arms like a father would comfort his young son, and said my name. At this moment, I woke up, and remembered everything, as if I lived something real.

Sad thing: I have NO CLUE about who this saint was. He looked very generic.
(30-40 years old~, short beard, calm face, looked like a monk who could’ve lived between 1850-1950’s based on the robes?). Perhaps I’ll know who he was one day.

At least I got the message straight:
My family and I are protected, and praying with the saints really does count for something.

God bless

Perhaps your saint is one of the many who are in heaven but are not officially recognized by the Church because their holiness was simply not noticed.
I hope you meet him in heaven one day.

Perhaps : )

Still, there are countless known Saints already…
knowing them all is difficult. I hope he’s not currently face-palming himself.

Nothing like that for me. You are blessed. I feel like the communion of the saints are indoors and I’m stuck outside looking in.

Recently I was learning a bit more about St Mary of the Cross here, and vaguely knew she was a very distant relation of a sort,so included learning a bit more about her life on a drive I went on.I went to mass in a church she had gone to at one time
and looked up after I’d taken a pew ,I hadn’t realised there was her portrait photo on the wall smiling beside me during mass,

Have you got a Charismatic prayer group in your Parish ? They’re very good at giving moral and prayer support. You should consider attending some of their meetings. If not in your parish , then in a neighbouring parish. Would your wife permit you to receive a visit from the Legion of Mary ? England is not the same as USA - there are so many committed Catholics and other Christians in USA - Not so many here. You need the affirmation and fellowship of other Christians.
