When addressing the Pope you should call him

When speaking directly to the Pope, could you say?

“Thank you, your holiness”
or
“Thank you, your excellency”

Someone said that you shouldn’t call him your holiness when addressing him.

Thank you.
 
Your Holiness. Your Excellency would be somewhat of a demotion, I think!

According to the site, Your Holiness, Holy Father or Most Holy Father are all fine. I just wouldn’t call him “big lad”, couldn’t find it on the list anywhere.
 
Your Holiness and thereafter Sir when directly addressing him (second person).

His Holiness, the Holy Father, or the Pope when speaking of him (third person).
