Is it possible?
When the son of perdition comes and the great persecutions begin, including confiscation and surrender of holy bibles (similar to what happened in China and elsewhere) what will happen to other Christian denominations that are so dependent to the bible, esp. sola scripturists? How will these ecclesial communities survive? I know Catholics can as we see it in the first few hundred years of Christianity when the books were not yet written.

Had this occurred to anybody’s mind, esp. protestants? Will they unite with us after all?
Please… your thoughts?

God’s Word is eternal, in the Person of Jesus Christ. Even if there was no Bible to begin with, we still have the Word. Remember, before there was a Bible, the gospels were shared through word of mouth. So even if there is no more Bibles, we will still have the Eternal Word of God.

Bible confiscations are not just some future event. It happens today, as it happened in the Roman Empire.
But nowhere have any opressors ever been able to confiscate ALL Bibles. Besides: Should it become neccessary, the clergy will memorize enough of the Bible (some will be able to memorize ALL of it) to still be able to provide leadership.

I hardly see this as a reason to join the RC church?

Will they even memorise the verses they skip 😉 😛 😃

I guess we will have to make sure we are stocked up on books-on-tape 😉 . Just a joke, but interesting question.

What really worries me are the sola fides or osas. When persecutions come I don’t want to be near them at all! Ever! You know why? I’m so scared they’ll turn me in! They do not care! They believe they’re already saved it doesn’t matter what they do. Whether they’ll collaborate with the enemy or become persecutors themselves.

Thanks for all your posts. I’m still busy ‘jackhammering’ a piece of concrete. Maybe get back tonight.🙂

What horrible acts to ASSUME that brothers and sisters in Christ will commit.
Need I remind you that the number of martyrs for Christ coming out of non RC-churches has exploded to the point where, in many of the countries where Christians are persecuted, they outnumber the RC-martyrs?

You’re urinating on the graves of martyrs of Christ, and on us who remain, and it is an act unworthy of any Christian

Not that I really want to be involved in this argument, but there is something to be said for one aspect of this thought: will Christians turn in other Christians JUST because they are not the same? Will the more anti-Catholic denominations help hunt down Catholics to keep the pressure off of themselves? I feel sure that there are Catholics who would help hunt down non-Catholics, but I think that is a minority and would not be condoned by the Church herself.

Well faux christian are nothing new…The Nazi’s had them…Catholics were murdered as well as other Christians a long with Jews

Well said. That was a horrible remark - but par for the course from US RCs, by the looks of it. This thread is nothing but another Protestant-bashing thread.

How are you? I hope you’re ok.
You’re bringing back the past here. My concern is the future. How Christian religions will cope when intense persecution come upon us. What are the motivating factors for survival? Will we become united or against one another?
I hope that those days will be ‘short’. But a thousand days is like a day with the Lord.

Let’s go back to my post and back also to that one particular thread in here for a restart- “No matter if you kill a thousand times each day…” by Jimmy B. If I am next to the guy who advocates this notion in that future scenario I will surely think of him very dangerous, wouldn’t you agree? That he’d be capable of doing something really bad or gruesome. “Hey, once saved always saved! This guy next to me is bound to perdition.”The same thing with the “faith-alone” people. All that is important is that they believe- they wouldn’t care when the threat is becoming a reality, when hardships and tortures are coming, would they? They won’t have to do anything, at the least, because believing would be enough to save them. If our beliefs are so different, can we trust one another?

Regarding the original post, some say they’ll have to start memorizing- which is good, I think. What do you gain? How can you be sure that the persecutions will be a short while? 50 years… 100 years…1000 years? In 20 years you’ll forget your beliefs…or shorter.

We, Catholics, are different. We can ‘smell’ one another. Whether we are up north, down south, west or east around the globe. (We will lose people- no doubt). We can live in some dungeons, caves, or ‘catacombs’ underground and we’ll still be united. You know why? Because we have the Eucharist and the power of the Holy Spirit that’s binding us together. We can recognize what we have. And we can recognize what is alien to us. Even without the books we will survive. That is a certainty!

Or the books Luther wanted to cut out - which practically every Christian for the first 1,500 years of Christianity accepted as canonical?
What does that have to do with the price of beer in Milwaukee?

Ooops! Correction on my previous post. Should read… “a thousand years is one day…”
That’s what happens when I don’t have my holy bible beside me. I misquote!🙂

Hmmm.
No one seems to want to speculate about the ugly future here anymore in this thread. What we are supposed to do when the great tribulation comes around.
What happens when persecution is so intense that we can no longer read our bibles freely.
What happens to our faiths? Will they hold up if these persecutions become a reality and unbearable? Especially the points I stated regarding ‘bible alone or faith alone’ belief systems? Can we trust these groups of obstinate believers brainwashed by their selfish ministers and pastors when that time comes?

Great Tribulation wasn’t called as such in the bible if it means just a simple whipping in the butt. It means many among us will be whupped up! There will be a great deception and confusion spread over the entire earth. There would be false peace and false freedom. And great corruption and bribery, for some will continue to possess enormous wealth and political power. And then brothers will be pitted against brothers, sisters against sisters. If one can support the evil of abortion without any guilt how much more then can I trust my protestant brothers here when we are stranger to one another, disunited in faith and I am considered bigot to him that he would not turn me in? That false doctrine of OSAS or ‘faith alone’ will eventually come to play. They are so indoctrinated by indifferentism.

Seemingly we are now entering a period of our time similar to that road on calvary when Jesus met the Jerusalem women, “Weep not for me, but weep for your children!” We are in it but don’t realize it. Protestant brothers, especially pastors and ministers, where do you lead your children? Where will you be in those times? What do you have for them when the time comes? If your answer is Christ, there is only one Christ. One body and is united in His Catholic Church. The Eucharist is promised to be available for us to partake with until Christ’s return in glory. That means the Catholic Church will live on until the end of time.

Note that recently the Holy Father is asking for urgent unity among Catholics and Orthodox… must be something to heed and think about.

God bless everyone…:signofcross:

Sorry, but wrapping your prejudicial and uncharitable characterization (“brainwashed”, “selfish ministers and pastors”, bigoted) of those you disagree with in the language of the end times doesn’t make that caricature any more worthy of discussion.

Yes, I’m hard on these protestant pastors and ministers who I consider as false teachers. Misleading our little ones and innocent ones.
Anyway, I mentioned that this is not for a ‘young’ at heart. Those uncharitable words are also used against us, my friend.
Truth is those kind of belief systems will not hold up to the end of times.
Thank you.
