When can I begin decorating for Christmas?

I believe I’ve been in error over the past few years not realizing it.
The issue is decorating or “putting up the tree” the day after Thanksgiving. I’ve been doing it this way for years not really tinking it was wrong until my sister rminded me of Advent and that the world was barren before Christ came and so should our homes be until maybe Christmas eve or a few days before.

What is the soonist that I can decorate and be ok?
