When can you drape a purple stole over a cross? How about a crucifix?

Do you mean Stole (vs the generic stole)?

Without knowing the reason and maybe location (such as Alter cross, big cross in the garden, 3rd class room from the left ---- it’s hard to say but it would be unusual in my geographic area, culture, and experience.
