When did Catholicism become nonviolent?

600 years of torture and murder of anyone who didn’t accept certain doctrines of roman catholicism. Also called dark ages
Interesting. Could you post a neutral source to substantiate this claim please? Something that details the 600 years of torture and murder by the Catholic Church please. Maybe something from the Encyclopedia Britannica or something just as authoritative.

I’d like to hear more about this. Of course I can’t just take your word on this subject. That’s a pretty serious allegation so you’ve got to back it up.

Go to bereanbeacon.org a former catholic priest will tell you all about it

No, sorry that link won’t work for me. A former Catholic priest would most certainly have an axe to grind against his former organization, and that would result in a bias.

Something more neutral please, something that even a scientist can look at and say “yep, that’s history”. Something with that’s neutral, filled with facts that I can verify with neutral sources, and with authority.

You don’t have a good knack for citing proper sources, do you? How about going to your local library, look up Inquisition in a proper encyclopedia, and read up on it. Then get back to us with your real facts and figures instead of off-the-cuff bigoted remarks. Anti-Catholic sources are not what we would call balanced any more than Catholic sources.

I’ll even make it easier for you. We will not deny that there were indeed injustices and abuses committed during Inquisitorial proceedings, and that punishments may even have been harsh by today’s standards.

Now do your research and get back here when you have actually learned something.

And to prevent a, er, urination competition (i.e. p****ng contest), let’s leave out the atrocities Protestants committed against Catholics and “witches”.

I think I heard ahmadinajad say the inquisition never happened along with the holocaust. Maybe he could be your reference

Ahmanutjob said no such thing.

Oh the Inquisition happened all right. And it wasn’t a pretty part of the Church’s history.

There, no denials. Now go do your research.

Nope, that’s not neutral either. I’m willing to listen to you, as long as you can give me factual proof. I mean, since you’re so sure of your figures and facts, the least you could do is make sure they’re solid and give me their basis, right?

Again, please. Give me your neutral sources and let’s study the facts that can be gleaned from them.

I know all about it thanks to my good friend at bereanbeacon.org
And he is not telling the truth.

I dare and challenge you to look it up in actual history articles. An encyclopedia will do just fine.

Finding “facts” about the Catholic Church from an anti-Catholic site is about as good as studying American or Jewish history written by Ahmanutjob.

The guy was a preist who became born again.
Fascinating testimony.
There is a wealth of info on that site.
If you want to see why people fall away from catholicism and become born again, spend an hour or two listening to their testimonies on that site. There are stories from priests nuns and various other former catholics.

And there are millions more priests and Catholic laypeople who know the Bible and the teachings of history of the Church who would rather die than follow such a weak-willed former priest.

I know their stories, and I am still amazed about how ignorant they were and still are. If they had only taken time to learn the Bible, they would never have left.

But do not change the subject. We are still awaiting your research. That site is not relevant to us, because it has a slant. Don’t cite Catholic sources either to be fair. Pick proper scholarly resources and present your findings.

So you do admit that from your perspective one cannot be Catholic and “born again”, completely contradicting what you told me in a previous thread when I asked you “Can one be born again and still be Catholic?”. You answered “Yes!”. I’m disappointed in your having lied to me.

But back to my query: Could you give me neutral sources please? Not personal testimonies please.

I didn’t lie.
A catholic can be born again but most aren’t. even priests.

I am not really interested in teaching anything about the inquisition.

Yes you did. There’s the proof.

So you’re not interested in teaching anything about the inquisition. Too bad. I was really interested in what facts you could tell me about it.

I had heard (from a respected Catholic friend and editor of a magazine) that, compared to secular courts of that time, the Inquisitors were just and compassionate—people actually confessed to witchcraft in order to be tried by them.

But I’m no historian. Just passing something on.
