When did Catholicism start?

Is it safe to say that the Church began when Christ commissioned the eleven?
 
Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled the first generation of the Church.
 
I think it was established when Christ said, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Christianity came to life at pentecost.

This is almost a “chicken and the egg” question. Jesus promised a paraclete to “guide you in all truth”. Guide who? The Church.:yup:

Will - future tense. Not “I am building my church”, but “I will build my church”

He guided the Church at Pentecost.

Paragraph 766 “The origin and growth of the Church are symbolized by the blood and water which flowed from the open side of the crucified Jesus.”…the Church was born from the pierced heart of Christ hanging dead on the cross.

Paragraph 767 …on the day of Pentecost…the Church was openly displayed to the crowds and the spread of the Gospel among the nations, through preaching, was begun."

Sorry. You are depending on english phrasing and translation to make your point and I can’t buy it. I think the intent of the phrase is that Jesus will build his church using Peter as the foundation. What I take away from this phrase is the Church began at that point.

However, reading the other thread that quotes the CCC it appears I am wrong. I certainly would defer to the Church’s teaching on the matter. The Church is certainly smarter than me.:o

I agree with Ignatius.

Think of the commissioning of the eleven (wasn’t it the twelve?) and all of Christ’s time with the Apostles as Spring Training.

They didn’t get into the Game until Pentecost.
 
I’ve always heard Pentecost referred to as the birthday of the Church.

There could be no conception and thus birthday without a soul infused, right? The soul was infused into the Church by God at Pentecost.
