My 12 yr old daughter wants to know when did dinosaurs exist. After Abraham? Did they live during the time of Jesus? How old is the earth? We are making a wall timeline from creation to present.

I googled it but I prefer to get the answer from Catholic Answers forum. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I’m going to also post somewhere else just in case.

Thank you.

Before Adam:p.

If you want a Biblical framework, then they were created about mid-morning on the sixth day, and already gone by the time God got around to making us in His image around 5 PM! (I’m sure that my temporal analogy is off–I didn’t work it out precisely but am going for the general idea).

Of course, it’s possible that a few survived–this is one of the few “creationist” arguments that actually makes some sense to me. . . .

Consider that soft tissue has been found. This has to be reconciled:

Either man saw dinosaurs or the tissue can last 65 million years.

My 12 yr old daughter wants to know when did dinosaurs exist.
From 245 million years ago to 65 million years ago. The period is broken down into Triassic period (245 to 208 million years ago) Jurassic (208 to 146 mya) and Cretacous Period ( 208 to 65 Mya)
After Abraham?
Long before given Abraham was around a few thousand years ago.
Did they live during the time of Jesus?
Not the big ones, but Chickens and the like were around then and theyre descended from dinosaurs.
How old is the earth?
4.5 billion years give or take 1%.

We’ve been over this before. I’ve explained it to you three times, and I know several others have as well. But that’s not the subject of this top. I just had to comment because I’m just a little shocked that after having had your understanding corrected so many times, you are still perpetuating this disinformation (this time knowingly, since you have had your understanding set straight).

Huh? This is a real issue. Did you know they found more?

And

Ancient muscle tissue extracted from 18 million year old fossil

A 525-million-year-old fossil hemichordate with preserved soft tissue has been discovered in Yunnan Province, China.

I’m not going over this again with you after having done it three times already. If you wish to continue to wallow in disinformation, that is your choice. (and this thread is not the place for it anyway) But I will point out that you will have to make an account for every false and misleading thing you utter in this life, even if you’re doing it in an attempt to bring people to God.

The Church does not have a teaching on when dinosaurs lived nor does it have a teaching on how old the earth is.

These are not matters of faith and morals. These are matters of science.

Farsight - Do you have a link for the *rest *of us that contradicts the ‘soft tissue issue?’

Enquiring minds want to know.😉

Again, this is not the subject of this thread, so lets stop it here. (I will not respond to further inquiry in this topic) But to quickly answer your question, yes. They are the very links that buffalo provides. The problem here is that he is twisting their meaning, taking specific and technical phrases and generalizing them to mean something else. The phrase “remnant of blood vessels” magically means “soft tissue” to him, even though the same sentence might go on to say that this very remnant was actually fossilized and not at all soft. It is likewise in pretty much every article he links on the subject, though not always as obvious.

Bwahahaha! Did you look at this in detail? The “preserved soft tissue” is “fossilised and turned to stone what was originally soft tissue”. All it means is an exceptionally well preserved fossil, with traces of parts that would normally have decayed before fossilisation.

I am glad to see that you accept the 525 million year age of the fossil.

I don’t think the argument would be that the soft tissue samples don’t exist, but that it somehow implies that Adam and Eve saw dinosaurs.

The articles linked discuss how a soft tissue sample survived for so long and there does not seem to be any question arising as to the age of the fossil. The soft tissue samples, in all three articles, are in the ballpark of 18, 50, and 525 million years old (according to the data). So to answer buffalo’s question, the samples are X-million years old (insert soft tissue sample age in for X).

The implication buffalo was making is that because soft tissue samples have been discovered, there must have been dinosaurs around with humans. This is a personal opinion and Farsight was just calling the opinion out as such (though not clearly enough to provide closure). The articles themselves seem to provide the answers so I would just read them.

God Bless.

I didn’t see “fossilised and turned to stone what was originally soft tissue” in the article.

Which is exactly the problem - you are willing to see only what you want to, and not the truth.

Which is very different from 525 million years old.

In this case we do actually have “very decayed remnants of actual soft tissue”. Notice that at the start of the article, Dr Schweitzer describes looking for fossils in strata where such preservation was more likely.

I am glad that you accept a date of 80 million years for the fossil and the evolution of birds from dinosaurs. Once again the scientific evidence refutes YEC.

Or could it be that scientists are only right when they agree with YECs preconceived ideas and always wrong when they disagree. Sometimes both in the same paper.

Why would you come to CAF for a question like that? Wikipedia will give you much more accurate answers. 😛

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Earth

Your daughter is 12 years old and hasn’t learned about dinosaurs in school yet? I learned about dinosaurs in like elementary school.
