When did the Church Go off the Rails

Which book or writing of his shows this or explains this? I would like to read that work and be able to use that as literature to be read by my highly educated Baptist and Grace Brethren family…

Some “thought” the church, the one and only church Christ instituted, went off the rails in the 16th century and so martin Luther tried to place what “seemed” to be off the rails, back on the rails.

What actually occurred, was that the Church and Her teachings were spot on, and some of the members of the clergy were abusing their power.

Martin Luther then started his own man made sect of religion, calling it Christianity, and things really went awry after that, beginning division after division and brand new doctrines brought about by the false doctrines of sola scriptura and sola fide.

The results are very evident, in that now what was once one, as Christ called it to be, is split into almost 40,000 divisions, all thinking their individual way of interpreting scripture is somehow correct, except that it is contrary and different to everyone else’s theology.
So I would say that what appeared to be the church in 1521 under the guise of Luther and Calvin and Wesley and Zwingli, wnet off the rails at that time and has never ceased. The Church christ established still remains, with the teachings still intact.

I do not know of a Lutheran, Presbyterian or any other church that hld to the teachings of their founder since the reformation period.

One thing that did cause my abortive conversion to Catholicism to come to a screeching halt was the realization that I was posting out of a particular brand of spiritual pride that is peculiar to converts to Catholicism from Protestantism. As a Catholic, I would know more than the Protestants. And as a convert, my spiritual act is better than most Catholics. I find some of my old posts on this thread and on others reeking of this, and I find it commonplace among converts or reverts to swagger and boast their superiority to the 33,000 denominations of ignorami who revolted against the true Church (not all are like that, and I have never seen that in MariaG). At least that’s the way I read many posters even if it is not meant. In my case it was not meant but I discovered it in myself. Converting to enhance one’s spiritual pride is not the best reason. I have not yet found sufficient reasons.

What is spiritual pride?

As a convert to Catholicism, I have only chagrin that it took me so long to take the question of Truth seriously enough to do my homework and realize what the Church is. Cradle Catholics are a lot smarter than I am spiritually!

I am proud to be a Catholic, but have done nothing at all which would represent more than the tiniest footnote to a footnote to a footnote to a footnote in Church history. I read Butler’s Lives of the Saints before converting, and if anything can beat the pride out of you, it’s that!

The Church existed long before I came along, and will be here long after I am gone. It is Christ which makes her what she is; I’m just along for the ride, and extremely blessed to be so.

If you like The Beatles, I’m not even Ringo Starr, but more someone who aspires to carries Ringo’s bag to his room one fine day.

I don’t understand how anyone can look upon the Bride of Christ and say, “See what I’VE done?”

Then why does the Church today still preserve all the writings of the gnostics even today.

Evidently, it’s in the hopes that various religious sects don’t repeat history. Sadly, that is not always the case.

It’s funny, but all the groups that claim Roman eradication of their writings ignore the vast amounts of gnostic writings and other heresies that are preserved.

BTW, Teflon, rumor has it that there is a Gospel of Thomas that the Church has been hiding for all these millennium and is about to surface.

Maybe if you have faith in Jesus and His Catholic Church you can be led without the need of rails.
