I was thinking about the Apostle Thomas and the evangelization of India. Sure enough he preached the Kingdom of God to the people there. He told them about Jesus and converted some. The entire New Testament was not written. So I was wondering how many years did the Christians in India have an oral Gospel and when did they receive their first written Gospel?

My understanding is until the 16th century, when St Francis Xavier arrived in southern India.

Dr. Claudius Buchanan (Church of England) (1766-1815) wrote that the Christians in India possessed the Peshito-Syriac Scriptures of both covenants in writing and they believed they possessed them “before the year A. D. 325,”
