I am thankful that my confessor has advised me to come once a week to confession.

=)

How often does your pastor have confessions? In our parish we only have confessions from 3-4 on Saturdays, and my priest is reluctant to schedule confessions outside of that. Some of us who would like to go more often than monthly feel guilty for taking up time at the only hour that’s available, so I’ve settled for monthly. I notice a big difference after my 2nd or 3rd week in that I stop noticing my sin as much, so I’d rather go ever 2 weeks.

For those of us discerning religious vocations, Perfectae Caritatis (Vatican II Decree on Religious Life) recommends every two weeks, so that is what I aim for. I am probably closer to once a month in practice sometimes, but usually every two weeks.

at least every 2 weeks.

my parish must be full of saints because our confession lines are very short and everyone goes up to receive Holy Communion.

i guess i am the struggling one.

Thankfully, my parish priest is available to hear confessions before every daily mass, Sunday mass, and on Saturday afternoons, or by appointment.
If I had only one hour a week, I’m sure I would drive one hour to the next parish to confess there, or the next neighboring parish. I have visited parishes where the one hour a week policy seems to be the norm and it is amazing that they have time to take all the confessions. Sure is nice to be unhurried!
www.masstimes.org makes it very easy to find reconciliation schedules.

Last Saturday, for the first time in 15 years. Fortunately with a very understanding, kind priest who was not in the least bothered by the fact I had forgotten how.

Congrats, katy. Glad to have you back and that you had a good experience. 🙂

As for me, I went 2 weeks ago. Going again this Saturday. I think my priest is surprised to see me so often…I don’t think a lot of people in my parish go too often. I still get nervous right before, but the happy peaceful feeling afterward is worth it. 🙂

Can you say …confession? You tell most teenagers "Reconcilation " and they wont understand.

Actually we are confessing our sins. We are being presumptious to think we are equal in this matter - that we decided to reconsile with God.

Once a week for me…usually. If I miss a few weeks I begin to feel real uneasy.😦

It’s been 2 weeks and I’m already dying to go again. I always feel so much freer and cleansed after reconciliation.

I love going to this special Catholic Church called “Our Lady of Sorrows” because the priests are great, the lights are dimmed, the candles flicker and the beautiful statues surround. It’s such a Holy experience and I feel great in the sight of God.

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, may the whole world burn with love for You”.

Our parish makes it easy to get to confession:

M-F 7:30-8:00 am; 12:15 and 5 PM
Sat 4:30 -5 pm and
Sunday10:30 -11 am
Of course, if need be a priest hears confession through the early part ot the mass as well. I think we have a lot of confessions. There always seems to be a line.

It is not presumptious to call the sacrament “reconciliation.” The Catechism uses the term.
1422 "Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion."4
1424 It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. In a profound sense it is also a “confession” - acknowledgment and praise - of the holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man.
It is called the sacrament of forgiveness, since by the priest’s sacramental absolution God grants the penitent "pardon and peace."6
It is called the sacrament of Reconciliation, because it imparts to the sinner the live of God who reconciles: "Be reconciled to God."7 He who lives by God’s merciful love is ready to respond to the Lord’s call: "Go; first be reconciled to your brother."8

i usually go weekly… that old practice of “confession as devotion”… i didn’t used to go so often and sometimes, now, I wonder if I go too much. but it helps me spiritually to understand that I can recieve God’s mercy and forgiveness…

I try to go every school holidays with the kids. But the other day I was offered the chance to go after Dove Fellowship.

I am always scared before I go in (even though I never have anything terrible to tell about) but the relief once I start is always enormous. Reconciliation is one of my favourite sacraments.:getholy:

NON-Catholic here… I just learned something…I thought you HAD to go to Confession once a week or you couldn’t partake in the Eucharist. Can someone explain? Or is Confession just when you feel that you need it? I’m serious here…can someone explain?

Hey, I try to go monthly, but I often fail :o . Thanks for the reminder:) and God Bless.

Hey,
Here’s a quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that deals with your question:

[1457](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1457.htm’)😉 According to the Church’s command, "after having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year."56 Anyone who is aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive Holy Communion, even if he experiences deep contrition, without having first received sacramental absolution, unless he has a grave reason for receiving Communion and there is no possibility of going to confession.57 Children must go to the sacrament of Penance before receiving Holy Communion for the first time.58

Thanks and God Bless.
