Thanks, so once a year. I am going to assume that you are “taught” what mortal sins are in Catechism classes correct? Because to be honest, I don’t know what they all are. I can imagine…but is there a list? Please know that I really am trying to learn more about the Catholic faith and am just not ready to knock on the door of the local Catholic church just yet. I was told that I could go through classes and it doesn’t mean that I have to become Catholic…that I can actually just inquire. Thanks again.Hey,
Here’s a quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that deals with your question:
1457 According to the Church’s command, "after having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year."56 Anyone who is aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive Holy Communion, even if he experiences deep contrition, without having first received sacramental absolution, unless he has a grave reason for receiving Communion and there is no possibility of going to confession.57 Children must go to the sacrament of Penance before receiving Holy Communion for the first time.58
Thanks and God Bless.
