When do you first receive Holy Spirit?

I’ve read that we first receive Him at baptism, so as a catechumen preparing to enter the church at the Easter Vigil Mass, how is the Holy Spirit working in my life? My RCIA director frequently mentions that the Holy Spirit prompts our prayer, convicts of us sin, etc., and I’ve experienced all of this. Especially to pray all the time for one particular person, who unknowing led me to Christ by hearing him share his story of how his pain led to his decision to stop following Him. Is the Holy Spirit doing something? I understand it’s not the same as a person who is already Catholic. Just confused about how this works.

I think it fair to say that the Holy Spirit acts upon the unbaptized. That is what is drawing you to Christ’s Church.

I received the Holy Spirit at Baptism when I was a baby.

Regarding the Holy Spirit prompting our prayer, etc… I think you need to be careful of that.

The Holy Spirit is not our conscience. Our own individual consciences can prompt us to pray, help use feel guilt, etc.

Having the Holy Spirit is far more than that, and is not typically something that you know you have due to feelings, etc.

I would rather say that having the Holy Spirit gives you the strength to do things that you normally would not be able to due without Grace.

NOW, I don’t mean that the Holy Spirit isn’t working on the unbaptized, but we can’t base things off feelings.
