When do you put up your Christmas decorations

I am curious what peoples traditions are. I usually do my decorations right after Thanksgiving with the Advent wreath also. I love this time of year. The joy of Christ’s birth, not the commercialism.

I’m trying to get my family to enjoy the saints feast days during Advent as a way of preparation and let Christmas come on 12/25. You would think that having a child whose birthday was 12/25 the rest of them would chill out a bit about the impending birth, but they just don’t get it.
We don’t spend 20 days before anyone elses bday in my family singing happy birthday, I get that he’s Jesus, but he didn’t make the days before his birthday a big deal…

As far as the advent wreath goes, we light ours every night at dinner. The kids love to be honored by being allowed to light one of the candles - behavior greatly improves this time of year 👍

The decorations are gradually put up during advent as part of the preparation for the celebration.

My life has gotten so much easier since I began accepting the concept that Advent is the time to** prepare** for Christmas, and that Christmas begins at sundown on the 24th. So this gives me almost a month to get everything done to get ready - and still be able to begin the celebration “on time”.

Now…if only I could get others in my life to understand this concept so that I wasn’t bombarded by invitations to “Christmas” parties and outings all through Advent, I’d have it made. LOL! Ah well, to each their own 😉

I voted Christmas Eve. We decorate from Advent but with Advent colors and then change everything including redecorating the tree on Christmas Eve to celebrate the days of Christmas until Ephiphany. We live in Germany where advent is really celebrated but Christmas Eve is the big day - and when you decorate your newly cut tree.

Usually the last week or two in November, sometimes in the first week of December it really depends on how busy we are that year. This year, rather today, we began to pull out the decorations. It usually takes us a week or two to put everything up since we have a huge Christmas village that gets placed around the Christmas tree. That village is huge and it keeps on growing much to my parents dismay.

We don’t bother with an advent wreath but we always put up the creche. It’s a wonderful one made by my father so many years ago.

I start with my Advent wreath. On the 2nd Sunday of advent, the Nativity scene goes up. On the 3rd Sunday the rest of my decorations start to go up, and I am usually finished by December 21. I don’t do a lot, mostly adding festive touches- bows, boughs, candles etc, to my everyday decor, since my 5 cats & a Christmas tree are a recipe for disaster! And it all stays up until the Epiphany! 😃

Our first year in the US we started on the Nativity project in late August for we made Bethlehem, Jerusalem (houses and synagogue), the forests, river, people, and every aspect of it by hand and we did not want to start small again after building it up for so many years. The last figures we put on the “Nacimiento” was what we call “El Misterio” meaning Mary, Joseph, and the Baby in the manger – which are the only store-bought figures. The area was behind curtains so no one could see it while we worked on it. It was finished December 23 – just in time for the celebration on the 24th. 👍

Now, we start on the first Saturday of December.

December 23rd. Used to be December 24th, but since I became a sacristan I no longer have time to decorate my home on Christmas Eve due to heavy service commitments on that day.

The Advent wreath is displayed from Vespers the evening before the first Sunday in Advent and is lit every evening from the that Sunday through December 23rd. I then change the violet and rose candles to white and all four white candles are lit daily from Vespers on Christmas Eve through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. All decorations are put away the day after that feast.

December the first, our street has a bit of a contest, that evening we all walk around and check out each other’s work, I actually won last year, but not this year,

Third Sunday in Advent. Then everything stays up until the Baptism of the Lord. 😃

Christmas Eve. I think it is important to observe Advent and its spirituality in order to enter into the Christmas season in the right spirit. I find that celebrating Christmas before its actual season takes something away from it.

Plus, my late grandmother taught me to do it that way 😉

I have literally just battled the “shed” where we keep all our stuff (we are currently living at parents so have a room FULL of everything and anything) to get our Christmas decorations out. A few things go up in the house from the beginning of December and then the tree is put up around the 14th Dec/15th Dec

Day after Thanksgiving. It usually takes a week or so to put everything out, not because there’s that much stuff but because it tends to take a while to dig things out and work around our schedules and the kids.

After Thanksgiving, as soon as possible, but usually not Thankgiving weekend itself.

We usually spend some time with both families and our wedding anniversary is celebrated that weekend. So it gets busy really fast even when there is no shopping.

Sometimes we wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving.

We also take at least a week to get everything out, put up the lights and even longer to do all of the baking and cooking. 😃

If we waiting until the night before, it really would be like a normal birthday celebration. Just cake and candles. 🤷

When I grew up it was a tradition to decorate as a family the Sunday after Thanksgiving. So I’ve stuck to that, though my decorations are sparse right now, I’m hoping to flush them out over the course of advent this year.

I helped my Mom decorate her place yesterday, so I put out my Advent wreath & creche today. I will continue to decorate as my work schedule allows- next comes lights & wreaths, then the tree!

I put it up the Sunday after thanksgiving. My daughter’s birthday is typically celebrated the Saturday after, and I don’t want my house messy when we have people over.

We don’t have our Advent wreath up this year. I’m having the kids make one out of a paper plate, tissue paper, and TP tubes.
